TV and media units for homes in Petts Wood
The screen size comes first. We plan the space around the TV you have, or the one you expect to buy, with room around it so it does not look squeezed. The height of the screen matters as well: it should suit where you sit, not just the wall. If your home has a tangle of wires behind the TV and a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall, that’s what TV and media units are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Lots of semis and interwar houses have been extended at the back or had the back rooms knocked through, and around Petts Wood, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large share of the housing. In a long knocked-through room, TV and media units can run the full length of one wall, or mark out the sitting end from the dining end. New plasterboard in an extension and older brick or block in the original house take different fixings.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Honest limits
Before you plan the job, it’s useful to know what we do not do:
- Taking out a fireplace or chimney breast
- Plastering or decorating around the unit
- New sockets behind the TV, which need an electrician
Not sure whether your space suits TV and media units? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.
Materials and parts
- Hand-painted finish
- Ventilated cabinets
- Spray-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Birch plywood
- Cable routes
From workshop to your room
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made in our workshop come in next. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.

Practical tips
Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Let us know about parking and access at the design visit
- Note the size of each box and speaker
- Plan any new sockets with your electrician before fitting
- Look at what the equipment makers say about airflow
When you change equipment, use the cable routes we planned rather than drilling new holes. It keeps the unit tidy.
Keep ventilation gaps and open backs clear as things change.
Your questions about TV and media units in Petts Wood
Is parking a problem for fitting in Petts Wood?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
I live near Petts Wood station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Do TV units need ventilation?
Media equipment runs warm and needs airflow. We design open backs, gaps or vents where it sits, rather than sealing it in a cupboard. Keep the vents clear once it’s in use.
What affects the price of TV and media units?
Each room is quoted on its own: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. You’ll get a written quote once we’ve measured up.
Can a TV unit hold speakers?
Speakers and soundbars get open shelves sized for them. Closing speakers behind a door muffles them, so we leave them open.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
We plan the route in at the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Off-the-shelf TV units come in a few set colours. Ours are painted in a colour agreed with you, by spray or by hand. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.

We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of Petts Wood, 5 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Bromley has its own. Close to Jubilee Country Park? A room that looks out on trees deserves a design that leaves the window alone. For a family home near Crofton Junior School, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design. If your home is one of the older houses near St Francis Church, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot advise on your lease.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.
