TV and Media Units in Chelsea Harbour
In Chelsea Harbour, we design TV and media units around the room you actually have. Your TV unit is designed at a visit to your home and made in our workshop.

- Equipment with nowhere proper to go
- Clutter around the TV

About our TV and media units in Chelsea Harbour
We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. You choose a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, in a colour agreed with you. We fit across Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London once the design and quote are agreed. We make TV and media units from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about a cabinet that traps heat and a TV that looks out of place in the room.
Mansion block flats tend to have tall ceilings and walls that wander, while a flat in a newer block is more likely to have plasterboard partitions. Around Chelsea Harbour, most households live in purpose-built flats of one kind or another, so we check what each wall is made of before planning TV and media units. Tall pieces are fixed back securely, whichever wall it is.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Living-room storage in Chelsea Harbour
In the streets around Chelsea Harbour, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 36%) and the years since 2000 (about 28%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how TV and media units are fixed and fitted. Chelsea Harbour is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. About 28% of homes in the streets around Chelsea Harbour were built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Newer homes normally have plasterboard stud walls and open-plan rooms, often with no chimney breast, so TV and media units are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor.
For a flat near Imperial Wharf station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Old Battersea House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
Chelsea Harbour is part of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, about 1 mile west of Fulham. Homes in Chelsea Harbour are part of the area we cover for TV and media units. In Hammersmith and Fulham, Chelsea Harbour is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 16 places on our list.

Our area takes in the homes around Natural History Museum Library and Archives, Lots Road pub and Heatherley School of Fine Art and the streets around them. There is a railway station in Chelsea Harbour itself: Imperial Wharf station. A little further out are Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (0.6 miles north) and Southside Wandsworth (1.5 miles south). For a walk, there’s Battersea Park Lake.
What happens on fitting day
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking near blocks of flats can be limited, and loading may need planning, so details of bays, permits or a loading area help. The sections are assembled in the flat and fixed to suit the walls. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the TV wall and everything that plugs into it is plenty.
- We visit to measure up, note where the sockets are and plan how the cables will run.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, leaving routes for cables and gaps for air.
- The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish and the routes left clear.
Before fitting day
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
Starting with a design visit
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
TVs keep getting bigger, and a stand chosen for today’s set may not suit the next. We can plan the opening with a bigger screen in mind if you expect to upgrade. Ready-made units can’t follow the boxing and risers found in many flats, leaving gaps or blocking access. Built-in pieces are designed around them, with access kept.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit.
Why us?
- Saturday visits and fitting by prior arrangement
- We work across all London boroughs
- A design visit, then a quote in writing
- A spray or hand-painted finish
See our comparison of bespoke and off-the-shelf or what a quote should include.
What it’s made from
Spray-painted finish
A sprayed coat covers edges and corners well. The colour is agreed before we start.
Hand-painted finish
With hand painting, you judge the colour in your own room. Scribed edges are painted along with the rest.
When is bespoke worth it?
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
Do you need TV and media units in Chelsea Harbour?
In older living rooms, a TV can look out of place. A built-in unit around the chimney breast lets it sit more quietly, rather than the focus of it.
We are often asked to help with:
- Bought furniture that does not suit the room
- Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste
- Speakers muffled behind doors
- Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
The wider area includes historic houses such as Carlyle's House, about 0.8 miles north-east. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.
Choosing a carpenter
- A written quote that sets out the job
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?

FAQs: TV and media units in Chelsea Harbour
Is Chelsea Harbour in the area you cover for TV and media units?
Yes, Chelsea Harbour is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Chelsea Harbour?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
What if I buy a larger TV?
If you’re likely to upgrade, we can leave room for it. Tell us the size you have in mind so the space and cable routes suit it.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.
Can a TV unit hold speakers?
We plan open spaces for speakers and soundbars. Closed doors muffle sound, so we leave them open.
How is the price worked out?
It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. The price comes in a quote in writing after the design visit.
