About our TV and media units in Parsons Green
Sockets often need to move for a built-in TV wall, behind the screen or inside a cupboard. That job is for your electrician. It is best done before we fit, and we can tell you where the unit will sit. If your home has a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall and a TV that looks out of place in the room, TV and media units made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.
Solid brick external walls are standard in Victorian and Edwardian houses, and internal walls may be brick or lath and plaster. With so many homes around Parsons Green built before 1919, we check which you have before deciding how TV and media units are fixed. Lath and plaster in particular needs fixings chosen for it.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

Fitting day, step by step
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so it helps to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- It starts with a short note from you about the TV wall.
- We visit to plan the unit and check the way in.
- We send a written quote.
- In our workshop we make the unit in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring the sections in, join them on the wall and scribe them to fit. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Preparing the room
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
Getting a quote
The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing for you to look over. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Caring for painted furniture
Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Find out how much space each box needs around it
- Talk to your electrician early about sockets
- Decide whether the TV will be wall-mounted or stand on the unit
- Let us know about access early
When you change equipment, use the cable routes we planned. It keeps the unit tidy.
Heavy equipment is best kept low.
The problems TV and media units solve
Boxes, consoles and routers on the floor are a familiar sight. A unit gives every box its own space, with air to keep it cool, and keeps the floor clear.
Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:
- A TV that looks out of place in the room
- Equipment with nowhere proper to go
- Empty alcoves beside the TV
- Somewhere to keep games tidy
For a family home near Lady Margaret School, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design.
Before you choose who makes it
- A quote in writing that sets out the job
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Where they’ll park and unload

Questions from Parsons Green
Do you cover homes near Imperial Wharf station?
Yes, homes across Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Is Parsons Green in the area you cover for TV and media units?
Yes, we work across Hammersmith and Fulham, Parsons Green included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
That’s normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Can the TV unit fit a bigger TV later?
We can size the opening for the screen you might buy next. It is useful to know the size you’re thinking of so the space and cable routes suit it.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
What it’s made from
Spray-painted finish
A sprayed coat covers edges and corners well. The colour is agreed before we start.
Plinths and scribe strips
In older houses, we typically scribe the sides and top. It’s what gives the unit its built-in look.
What TV and media units can’t fix
Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:
- Repairing plaster or redecorating
- Connecting the TV signal or internet
- Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Living-room carpentry in Parsons Green: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Parsons Green were built before 1919 (about 60%) and since 2000 (about 18%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Part of Parsons Green is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. About 60% of homes in the area around Parsons Green were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. In houses of that age, the chimney breast often becomes the TV wall, with cupboards in the alcoves for set-top boxes and speakers, with cable routes and ventilation planned in.
Near listed buildings like Hurlingham House, about 0.5 miles south of the centre of Parsons Green, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. Fulham Palace, about 0.8 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.
