About our TV and media units in World's End
A built-in TV unit gives the screen, the boxes, the speakers and the cables one planned home. Instead of a stand, a tangle of wires and a few odd shelves, the whole wall is designed at once. For a living room in World's End, we start with a design visit to measure and talk through what you use. If your home has a TV that looks out of place in the room and bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room, TV and media units made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.
Solid brick external walls are standard in Victorian and Edwardian houses, and internal walls may be brick or lath and plaster. Since a large share of the homes around World's End date from before 1919, the wall type is checked before any fixing for TV and media units is chosen. Lath and plaster needs a lighter touch and the right fixings.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

What prompts TV and media units in World's End
Equipment on the floor is another reason. A media unit gives each box its own ventilated space.
A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:
- A TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall
- Nowhere good for speakers
- Clutter around the TV
- A screen at the wrong height
For a flat near Imperial Wharf station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it.
Before you choose who makes it
- Whether you will get a quote in writing, not just a figure
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- How the furniture will be finished, and where

From workshop to your room
Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out.
- To begin, use our contact form; a brief note on the TV wall and everything that plugs into it is plenty.
- We visit to measure up, note where the sockets are and plan how the cables will run. If you need new sockets, your electrician should do that before fitting.
- A written quote follows for the unit.
- The unit is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with cable openings and vents cut in.
- The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish and the routes left clear.
Before we arrive
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Living-room carpentry in World's End: local notes
About 59% of the homes in the streets around World's End went up before 1919, and about 17% since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of World's End, Historic England’s list includes Chelsea Old Church (all Saints) (Grade I), under half a mile east, and Stanley House (Grade II*), less than half a mile west. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Kensington and Chelsea is inside it. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in World's End. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.
For a family home near Ashburnham Community School, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design. If you live near William Parnell Park, shelving that stops short of the window keeps the view of the green.
World's End is within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, about 2 miles north-west of Kensington. We cover World's End as part of our work across Kensington and Chelsea, and the process is the same everywhere we work. World's End is one of the places in Kensington and Chelsea where we make TV and media units.
Design visits and fitting in SW10, SW6 and SW3 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Ann Lane, Lots Road and Avalon Road, whether you want TV and media units or another piece made for the room. Close by, we also work in Little Chelsea (1 mile north), Chelsea Harbour (1 mile south), Walham Green (1 mile south-west), Sands End (1 mile south) and South Kensington (1 mile north). Across the rest of Kensington and Chelsea, our area takes in Kensington (2 miles north-west), Notting Hill (2 miles north-west), Notting Dale (3 miles north-west), Holland Park (2 miles north-west), Bayswater (2 miles north) and Kensal Town (3 miles north-west).
Around World's End
We fit furniture in homes around Chelsea Academy, The World's End pub and English National Ballet School and the streets around them. The closest station to World's End is Imperial Wharf station, about 0.5 miles south of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Kensington Arcade (1.4 miles north) and Chelsea Stadium Tour And Museum (less than half a mile west). For a walk, there’s Battersea Park Lake.
What affects the cost of TV and media units
Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Parking and unloading on your street
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
Before the design visit
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Where you live, with the postcode
Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly during the design visit. To arrange it, fill in our short enquiry form and let us know about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.
Questions we’re often asked
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Imperial Wharf station?
Yes. We cover all of Kensington and Chelsea and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Will a conservation area stop me having TV and media units fitted in World's End?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Who moves the sockets for a built-in TV wall?
We do not do electrical work. Sockets and wiring are for your electrician, and Part P of the Building Regulations covers some electrical work in homes. We tell you where the unit will sit so the sockets end up in the right place.
What happens at the measuring visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will talk you through what to expect beforehand.
Flats, leases and landlords
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
