Questions from Sands End

I live in a flat in Sands End. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Sands End?

Yes, we work across Hammersmith and Fulham, Sands End included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details.

How long will the fitting take?

The fitting depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.

Do pictures help?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

How much will my TV unit cost?

It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. We send a written quote after the design visit.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

About our TV and media units in Sands End

Speakers need space to be heard properly. A soundbar typically sits just below the TV. Closing speakers in a cupboard muffles them, so we leave open bays for them. Typical reasons to get in touch are boxes with no ventilation and a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

In a mansion block flat, ceilings are often tall and the walls are rarely straight, while a flat in a newer block is more likely to have plasterboard partitions. Around Sands End, most households live in purpose-built flats of one kind or another, so we check what each wall is made of before planning TV and media units. Whatever the wall, tall pieces are fixed back securely.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Living-room storage in Sands End

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Sands End were built before 1919 (about 31%) and since 2000 (about 29%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 19 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Sands End. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Fewer homes around Sands End date from before 1919 than across Hammersmith and Fulham: about 31%, against about 56%, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. So the walls behind TV and media units here are more likely to be later brick, block or plasterboard, and they’re checked at the design visit.

For a flat near Imperial Wharf station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. Close to Imperial Park? A room that looks out on trees deserves a design that leaves the window alone. For an older house near St Mary's Church, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

Caring for painted furniture

Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Let us know about access early
  • Check where the seating will go
  • Think about whether you want the screen on a bracket or on a shelf
  • Note the size of each box and speaker

A soft, slightly damp cloth is all painted surfaces need. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners, which can mark the finish.

Do not let clutter build up against the unit’s vents.

How fitting works for TV and media units

At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a block without a lift, every section goes up the stairs, so it’s sized to be manageable. The tightest landing sets the largest piece. The pieces are assembled in the flat.

  1. You send us some details about the TV, the boxes and the speakers you use, including the size of the screen.
  2. We come to measure, note the sockets and agree the layout. New sockets or wiring are for your electrician, so it is useful to have them in mind early.
  3. Your quote follows, with the design, materials and finish set out.
  4. The unit is built in our workshop, with openings for cables and air.
  5. We install the unit, leaving the cable routes and vents clear. We check the doors and shelves with you before we leave.

Before fitting day

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Starting with a design visit

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a written quote.

Advice

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it at the design visit.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease.

When you need someone else

Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)
  • Connecting and setting up your equipment
  • Plastering or decorating around the unit

Not sure whether your space suits TV and media units? You can drop us a line using the contact form and we will tell you. How it works.
