Fitted Wardrobes in Chelsea Harbour

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make fitted wardrobes for homes in Chelsea Harbour, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • Not enough hanging space
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

Fitted wardrobes in Chelsea Harbour

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf wardrobes are cheaper to buy and easy to take with you. If you are renting or moving soon, that may matter most. Fitted wardrobes stay with the room. Standard furniture doesn’t allow for boxed-in pipes, risers or meter cupboards, leaving gaps or blocking access. Fitted furniture is built around them.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Why work with us in Chelsea Harbour

  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight
  • Work across the whole of London

How we make fitted wardrobes for Chelsea Harbour

We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in a colour agreed with you. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about space under the eaves going to waste and no space in front for doors to swing.

Around Chelsea Harbour, most households live in purpose-built flats, and blocks often have rules on lift booking, deliveries and working hours. It helps to check those with the managing agent before fitting day. If your flat is leasehold, your lease may also need checking before fitted wardrobes are fixed to the walls.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the fitted wardrobe we’ve designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

How fitting day works

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Sections come into the flat in the order they’re fitted, so the flat doesn’t fill up. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. The fixings suit each wall, whether solid or stud.

  1. To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
  3. A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site, and the inside fittings go in last.

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Advice

Flats, blocks and rented homes

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

What it is made from

Plinths and scribe strips

A plinth raises the wardrobe off the floor and takes up any slope. It can line up with the skirting.

Spray-painted finish

Spraying in the workshop means the doors come to your home finished. Treat them gently while the paint cures fully.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Chelsea Harbour

About 36% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Chelsea Harbour went up before 1919, and about 28% since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, may need listed building consent from the council. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 28% of homes in the neighbourhood around Chelsea Harbour were built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Newer homes often have compact bedrooms with plasterboard stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs.

If your children go to Chelsea Academy or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If you live near Imperial Park, fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Is it time for fitted wardrobes?

Sharing a bedroom means sharing the wardrobe. A fitted wardrobe can be planned with separate sections, each with the rails, shelves and drawers its owner needs.

Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:

  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
  • Clothes with nowhere proper to go
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • An tricky slope in a loft bedroom

If your home is one of the older houses near St Mary's Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

  • Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure

Questions we’re often asked

Do you cover homes near Imperial Wharf station?

Yes. We cover all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Does a conservation area in or near Chelsea Harbour affect fitted furniture?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

Is it possible to have storage over the bed?

Yes. Building around the bed uses a wall that often goes unused and can include bedside shelves. We measure the bed and the room during the design visit.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. To send them, message us from the contact page.
