TV and Media Units in Fulham

In Fulham, we design TV and media units around the room you actually have. Your TV unit is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.

  • A cabinet that traps heat
  • A tangle of wires behind the TV
  • Speakers muffled behind doors

TV and media units designed for your room

Is it time for TV and media units?

A new, larger TV often prompts it. The old stand no longer suits it, or the screen takes over the room. Shelves and cupboards around the screen make it sit better in the room.

Here’s what TV and media units can help with:

  • Clutter around the TV
  • A tangle of wires behind the TV
  • Speakers muffled behind doors
  • Standard units leaving gaps

If your children go to St Johns Walham Green Church of England Primary School or a school nearby, shelving with deep cupboards below keeps books, games and school things in one place.

What to check before you book

  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work

TV and media units in Fulham

Everything starts with the screen. The opening is planned around your current TV, or a bigger one if you’re likely to upgrade, with room around it so it doesn’t look squeezed. The height of the screen matters as well: we set it to suit the sofa, not the shape of the wall. If your home has leads that show from every angle and boxes with no ventilation, TV and media units made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.

Victorian and Edwardian houses were built with solid brick outside walls, while the walls inside can be brick or lath and plaster. With so many homes around Fulham built before 1919, we check which you have before deciding how TV and media units are fixed. Lath and plaster needs a lighter touch and the right fixings.

The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Why bespoke in Fulham?

Some closed off-the-shelf cabinets have little ventilation. We plan ventilation for boxes, consoles and amplifiers. Off-the-shelf furniture is made for flat walls and level floors, which older houses rarely have, so you end up with gaps, wobbles and units that do not meet the skirting. Fitted furniture is scribed to the wall instead.

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

What you get with us

  • Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight
  • Saturday visits and fitting by arrangement
  • Every London borough and the City of London covered
  • Made for your room, not a standard size

Take a look at how bespoke compares with ready-made and how to compare quotes.

From workshop to your room

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You send us some details about the TV, the boxes and the speakers you use.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the screen space, cable routes and ventilation with you.
  3. You receive a quote in writing setting out the unit, materials and finish.
  4. We make the cupboards, shelves and panels in our workshop, with openings for cables and air.
  5. We install the unit, leaving the cable routes and vents clear.

Before we arrive

Advice

Flats, conversions and lettings

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so each section is sized to get through.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them at the design visit.

Fulham homes and TV and media units

Homes built before 1919 make up about 67% of the housing in the area around Fulham, with about 13% built between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 4 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Fulham. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. About 26% of households in the streets around Fulham live in flats in converted or shared houses, according to Census 2021. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.

For an older house near St. Peter's Church, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. If you live near Parsons Green (park), shelving that stops short of the window keeps the view of the green.

Questions from Fulham

I live near West Brompton station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Fulham?

Yes. Fulham is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Hammersmith and Fulham and London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Can the TV be wall-mounted with a unit around it?

The unit can be planned either way. If the TV is wall-mounted, panels and shelves are arranged around the bracket and cables or we size the top for a TV that stands on it.

Will my boxes get too hot inside the unit?

We plan ventilation into the unit for boxes, consoles and amplifiers. Each box should have its own space and you can check the maker’s guidance on clearances.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Usually not. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character.
