Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
I live near West Brompton station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Kensington and Chelsea and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
My home in Earl's Court is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The size of the room, the layout and the finish all make a difference. To arrange a design visit, message us from the contact page.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.

Lighting makes a big difference in a dressing room. Wiring for new lights is a job for your electrician. We plan the units with your electrician’s work in mind, and agree the details at the design visit. People normally come to us about a use for a small spare room and long and double hanging planned around your clothes, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
A large share of the homes around Earl's Court were built before 1919, and bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast with an alcove either side. Fitted furniture can fill the alcoves, wrap round the chimney breast or run across a whole wall. Because older floors slope and walls bow, everything is scribed and levelled on site.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Open rail systems are simple and adaptable, which suits some people well. A fitted walk-in wardrobe adds doors, drawers and shelves where you want them, painted to match the room. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines, with panels and details to suit the house.
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

How we price walk-in wardrobes
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- The number of doors and drawers
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.
What we need to know
When you contact us, these help most:
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- How you want to use the space
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Earl's Court
Homes built before 1919 make up about 72% of the housing in the area around Earl's Court, with about 9% built between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 23 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Earl's Court. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Purpose-built flats are home to about 57% of households in the area around Earl's Court, the 2021 Census shows. For a flat, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
Close to Gwendwr Garden? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. For families living near St Cuthbert with St Matthias CofE Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If you live in a period home close to St Cuthbert's, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Earl's Court is about 1 mile north-west of Kensington, in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Whether your home in Earl's Court is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. We cover places right across Kensington and Chelsea, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.
In W14, W8 and SW5, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Whether you live on a street such as Sun Road, Star Road and Rich Lane or on one nearby, we can arrange a design visit for walk-in wardrobes. Earl's Court sits close to the A3218 and A3220, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. Other places close to Earl's Court include West Brompton (1 mile south), South Kensington (1 mile east), Little Chelsea (1 mile south-east), World's End (1 mile south-east) and Walham Green (1 mile south). Elsewhere in Kensington and Chelsea, we also cover Notting Dale (2 miles north), Kensal Town (2 miles north) and North Kensington (3 miles north-west).
What’s near Earl's Court
Our area takes in the homes around Collingham College, Abdus Salam Library and The Fulham Boys School and the streets around them. Earl's Court has its own railway station: West Brompton station. Well-known places in the area include Chelsea Stadium Tour And Museum (0.7 miles south) and Kensington Arcade (0.7 miles north). For a walk, there is Campden Hill and The Long Water.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it during the design visit.
What walk-in wardrobes can’t fix
As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:
- Fixing the cause of damp
- Structural changes or removing walls
- New lights or sockets
Not sure whether your space suits walk-in wardrobes? You can message us from the contact page and we will tell you. How a job runs, step by step.
Materials and parts
- Shoe storage
- Hanging, shelves and drawers
- Birch plywood
- Dressing table
- Hand-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Spray-painted finish
What happens on fitting day
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.
- You let us know about the room.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
- A quote in writing follows.
- The units are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
- Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
