TV and media units in Kennington, Lambeth

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make TV and media units for homes in Kennington, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Space for a soundbar and speakers
  • Somewhere to keep games tidy
  • A TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall

What TV and media units can’t fix

It is worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Setting up and tuning the TV, boxes and speakers
  • Plastering or decorating around the unit
  • Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)

If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Materials and parts

  • Ventilated cabinets
  • Hand-painted finish

TV and media units in Kennington: what you get

Cables are the part most people want to hide. Cable routes are built into the design from the start, with holes, channels and access panels so leads can be added or changed later. The routes are ours, while any wiring is for your electrician. We make TV and media units from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a big screen that dominates the wall and boxes and consoles on the floor.

Mansion block flats tend to have tall ceilings and walls that wander, whereas newer blocks are more likely to have plasterboard partitions. Most households around Kennington live in purpose-built flats, old or new, so we check what each wall is made of before planning TV and media units. Whatever the wall, tall pieces are fixed back securely.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the TV unit we’ve designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

Questions we are often asked

I live in a flat in Kennington. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. TV and media units are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

I live near Vauxhall station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Lambeth and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

How do I get a quote for TV and media units in Kennington?

It is easiest to drop us a line using the contact form and tell us about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a written quote.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

Do you move sockets for a TV unit?

We do not do electrical work. Your electrician handles sockets and wiring, and Part P of the Building Regulations covers some electrical work in homes. We share the layout so the sockets line up with the design.

How long will the fitting take?

The fitting depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The making happens in our workshop.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

Why people ask for TV and media units in Kennington

Open-plan living is another reason. A built-in unit gives that wall order and adds storage for the rest of the room.

If you recognise any of these, it’s worth talking to us:

  • Boxes with no ventilation
  • A tangle of wires behind the TV
  • Nowhere good for speakers
  • Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste

Near listed buildings like Church of St Mark, under half a mile east of the centre of Kennington, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

What to check before you book

  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from

How to choose a carpenter in London

Could you do it yourself?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Living-room carpentry in Kennington: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Kennington were built since 2000 (about 32%) and before 1919 (about 26%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Kennington is partly covered by the Vauxhall Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Parking on many inner London streets is controlled, with zones run by each borough. So a van fitting furniture in Kennington usually needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension arranged through the council. Let us know about parking near your home during the design visit.

For an older house near Calvary Church of God in Christ, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. For families living near St Stephen's Church of England Primary School, TV and media units can be planned with low cupboards for toys and higher shelves for everything else.

Fitting day, step by step

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Noise from drilling travels in a block, so neighbours may appreciate a note, and some buildings set hours for noisy work. We plan the day to suit those rules. Saturday work is by arrangement where the building permits it.

  1. You get in touch with details of the room and where it is in your home.
  2. At the design visit we measure the wall and also the hall, stairs and doorways the unit has to pass through. Let us know about parking too, since a van may need a visitor permit or a paid bay.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. In our workshop we make the unit in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The sections are carried in, assembled and set level, ready for your equipment.

Getting ready for fitting day
