TV and media units in Kentish Town: what you get
TV units are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. You choose a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, in the colour you prefer. We work across London, including Kentish Town once the design and quote are agreed. If your home has speakers muffled behind doors and boxes with no ventilation, that’s what TV and media units are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Most homes around Kentish Town are purpose-built flats, so the route in is part of the plan. Each piece is built in sections that fit the stairs, the lift and the doorways, and assembled and fitted in place. A lease can require consent before you fix furniture to the walls, so it’s worth checking first.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Built-in living-room furniture in Kentish Town
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Kentish Town were built before 1919 (about 43%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 21%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 22 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Kentish Town. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Camden included. Vans bringing furniture to Kentish Town fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.
For an older house near Church of the Holy Trinity with St Barnabas, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. Keats House, about 1.2 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.
Kentish Town is about 2 miles south-east of St Pancras, in the London Borough of Camden. Homes in Kentish Town are part of the area we cover for TV and media units, as part of our work in every London borough. Across Camden, we cover Kentish Town and the places around it.
Postcode districts we cover here for TV and media units: NW5, NW1 and NW3. You’ll find streets here like Eton Road, Oval Road and Regal Lane, and homes on each of them are within our area for TV and media units. Neighbouring places we cover for TV and media units include Chalk Farm (1 mile west), Camden Town (1 mile south-east), Gospel Oak (1 mile north), Primrose Hill (1 mile south-west) and Agar Town (1 mile south-east). Elsewhere in Camden, we also cover St Pancras (2 miles south-east), Hampstead (2 miles west), West End (2 miles south), St Giles (2 miles south), Seven Dials (2 miles south) and West Hampstead (2 miles west).

Bespoke TV and media units or ready-made?
Bought media units are made in set widths, and rarely fill an alcove or a wall. A bespoke unit is scribed to the walls and can run to the ceiling. Ready-made furniture stops at a set height, whatever the ceiling, so storage is lost at the top. Fitted furniture runs to the ceiling.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising at the design visit.
The problems TV and media units solve
Families with consoles, games and controllers want them tidied away. Cupboards and drawers in the unit keep them in one place.
We’re often asked to help with:
- Nowhere good for speakers
- A big screen that dominates the wall
- A cabinet that traps heat
- Cables trailing across the wall
For families living near Holy Trinity and Saint Silas CofE Primary School, low doors that small hands can open, with books and ornaments higher up, suit a busy family room.

FAQs: TV and media units in Kentish Town
I live near Kentish Town West station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Camden and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Kentish Town?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. We can’t advise on leases, so please check yours.
How is the price worked out?
Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it, along with access and parking. We send a written quote after the design visit.
Where should speakers go in a TV unit?
Speakers and soundbars get open shelves sized for them. Closed doors muffle sound, so we leave them open.
Can you add sockets behind the TV?
Electrical work is not something we do. Your electrician handles sockets and wiring. We share the layout so the sockets line up with the design.
What happens on fitting day
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as we will have talked about at the measuring visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so it is worth checking with the managing agent ahead of time. Communal areas and floors are protected on the way in.
