Fitted home offices in Kentish Town: local notes

In the streets around Kentish Town, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 43%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 21%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Kentish Town include All Saints Greek Orthodox Church (Grade I), about 0.5 miles south-east, and Church of St Martin (Grade I), about 0.6 miles north-west. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Purpose-built flats are home to about 57% of households in the neighbourhood around Kentish Town, based on Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

For families living near Holy Trinity and Saint Silas CofE Primary School, closed cupboards above a desk keep work papers and school books apart. The wider area includes historic houses such as Keats House, about 1.2 miles north-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.

How we make fitted home offices for Kentish Town

A fitted home office gives your work a proper place in the house. We design and make built-in desks, shelving and storage for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and the space under the eaves, shaped by the way you work. For a home in Kentish Town, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. Typical reasons to get in touch are a desk buried under papers and a desk in the wrong light; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

A desk can be built into a run of wardrobes or bedroom cupboards, with drawers beneath and shelving over it. Since most households around Kentish Town live in purpose-built flats, one run of furniture doing two jobs can make sense. We plan where cables run and leave new wiring to your electrician.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

FAQs: fitted home offices in Kentish Town

I live near Kentish Town West station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Camden and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make fitted home offices for a home in Kentish Town?

Yes, Kentish Town is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Camden and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Can a home office go in a loft room?

Yes, in a loft that is already converted. We place the desk so you can sit and stand without hitting the slope, and the low space under the slope can hold storage. The conversion itself isn’t our work.

How long does it take to fit a home office?

The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Every part is made in our workshop before we arrive. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

Can a desk be fitted into an alcove?

In many homes, yes. A desk with shelving over it can fit neatly in an alcove. It is scribed to the alcove walls so it fits closely. We will check the size at the design visit.

Pricing fitted home offices in Kentish Town

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • The overall size of the piece
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Helping us understand the room

These details help when you get in touch:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

Fitting day, step by step

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a block of flats, the stairs, landings, lift and doors matter as much as the room: home offices are made in sections sized for each of them. Mansion block lifts can be small, and some blocks have no lift at all, which the design allows for.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the space.
  2. We visit to measure the room and the way in, and go through the design. It helps to let us know about parking, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. We build the office in our workshop, in sections, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The sections are brought in, joined and scribed to the walls, ready for work.

Before fitting day

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Ask for a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Advice

Do you need fitted home offices in Kentish Town?

Many people get in touch because they now work from home, at least part of the week. A kitchen table or a corner of the bedroom soon stops working. A fitted home office gives work a proper place.

Requests we hear often include:

  • Shelving that bows under the load
  • Files and folders piling up
  • Wires with no tidy route
  • A spare room that has to be an office and a guest room

If you live in a flat close to Kentish Town West station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • How the furniture will be finished, and where

How to choose a carpenter in London

Why bespoke in Kentish Town?

Ready-made office furniture comes in set sizes for straight walls. In an alcove, a landing or under the eaves, that leaves gaps and wasted space. Bespoke furniture is made to the room and fits it. It is a bigger investment, and the gain is a workspace that uses the room well. Off-the-shelf furniture is sized for an average room, and flats are rarely average, leaving gaps or crowding a door or radiator. Built-in pieces are designed around them.

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Why us?

  • Over 300 projects completed
  • Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
