  • Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
  • Wasted space around the screen
  • Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard

TV and media units for homes in Camden Town

Sockets often need to move for a built-in TV wall, such as behind the screen or in the equipment cupboard. That job is for your electrician. Ideally it is done before the unit goes in, and we can tell you where the unit will sit. People usually come to us about a big screen that dominates the wall and alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

Getting long pieces into a flat often takes the most planning. With purpose-built flats home to most households around Camden Town, the sections for TV and media units are planned during the design visit, with the route in measured not just the room. The joins are placed where they won’t show once the furniture is fitted.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How fitting day works

At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so it is worth checking with the managing agent ahead of time. Communal areas and floors are protected on the way in.

  1. You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
  2. We visit to measure and discuss the design and how the unit should look in the room.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the finish set out.
  4. We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray-painted finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. We fit it in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied once it is in and is easy to touch up later.

Before we arrive

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time

Arranging a design visit

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Living-room carpentry in Camden Town: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Camden Town were built before 1919 (about 40%) and since 2000 (about 22%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Within a mile of the centre of Camden Town, 18 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. About 60% of households in the streets around Camden Town live in purpose-built flats, according to Census 2021. For a flat, TV and media units are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

The wider area includes historic houses like Winfield House, about 1.2 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. For a family home near Our Lady Roman Catholic Primary School, TV and media units can be planned with low cupboards for toys and higher shelves for everything else.

Camden Town is in the London Borough of Camden, about 1 mile south-east of St Pancras. We cover Camden Town as part of our work across Camden, and the process is the same everywhere we work. We cover places right across Camden, large and small.

Every address in NW1, N1C, NW5 and NW3 is within our area for TV and media units. You’ll find streets here such as Camden High Street, Greenland Road and Camden Road, and we cover homes on all of them for TV and media units. Camden Town sits close to the A400 and B512. If your home is on one of them, tell us at the measuring visit, as some main roads have strict stopping rules. Neighbouring places we cover for TV and media units include Agar Town (1 mile east), Kentish Town (1 mile north-west), Chalk Farm (1 mile north-west), Somers Town (1 mile south-east) and Primrose Hill (1 mile west). Across the rest of Camden, our area takes in Hampstead (2 miles north-west), West End (2 miles south), St Giles (2 miles south), Seven Dials (2 miles south), West Hampstead (2 miles north-west) and Holborn (2 miles south-east).

Doors and drawer fronts

Cupboard doors keep equipment out of sight and are planned with ventilation where needed.

Shelves

Open shelves suit speakers and things you want on show.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit.

Why people ask for TV and media units in Camden Town

Some have tried off-the-shelf units that never quite fitted. Standard TV stands rarely suit an awkward wall, and that’s where a bespoke unit helps.

A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:

  • Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
  • Equipment with nowhere proper to go
  • Space for a soundbar and speakers
  • Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste

If your home is one of the older houses near St Michael's Church, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors

Your questions about TV and media units in Camden Town

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Camden Town?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Camden Town?

Yes, Camden Town is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Camden and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.

How do I get a quote?

The first step is to drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Can a built-in unit hide all the wires?

That is the aim, and it’s planned from the start. Routes, openings and removable panels let you add or change leads later without taking the unit apart. If the TV is wall-mounted, we plan a route behind the screen.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, but it’s useful to be around at the end.
