About our TV and media units in Stratford

We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The finish is spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in a colour agreed with you. We work across London, including Stratford once the design and quote are agreed. We make TV and media units from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the things people most often want solved are nowhere good for speakers and equipment running hot in a closed cupboard.

Newer homes often come with a TV point and sockets on one wall but nothing built around them. A good number of homes around Stratford went up since 2000, so TV and media units are usually designed around what’s already there. If you want an extra socket, that’s for your electrician, and we leave space and cable routes for it.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Fitting day, step by step

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so it helps to let us know during the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and your equipment, including the size of the screen.
  2. We visit to measure the wall and discuss the design. New sockets or wiring are for your electrician, so it helps to have them in mind early.
  3. We send a written quote for the unit, ready for you to check.
  4. We make the cupboards, shelves and panels in our workshop, with openings for cables and air.
  5. We fit it in your home, with the cable routes ready to use.

Before we arrive

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Getting a quote

We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Drawers keep controllers and games tidy. They’re painted in the same colour as the rest.

Plinths and scribe strips

Scribe strips are trimmed on site to meet walls that are not straight.

Common questions about TV and media units

My home in Stratford is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Stratford?

Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London, and Stratford is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

How do you hide the TV cables?

Cable routes are built into the design. Where the cables meet the wall depends on where the sockets are, and your electrician can move them if needed.

Can the TV be wall-mounted with a unit around it?

Where the TV is to be wall-mounted, we plan the unit around the bracket, with a route for the cables. The wall needs to be sound for the bracket, which we look at during the design visit.

Can I send pictures before the visit?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

TV and media units in Stratford: local notes

About 55% of the homes in the streets around Stratford went up since 2000, and about 19% before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how TV and media units are fixed and fitted. The Stratford, St John's Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Stratford. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. About 67% of households in the neighbourhood around Stratford live in purpose-built flats, according to Census 2021. For a flat, TV and media units are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Sutton House, about 2.1 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. If you live in a period home close to Church of St John the Evangelist, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.

Stratford is about 2 miles south-east of Plaistow, part of the London Borough of Newham. Wherever you are in Stratford, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Across Newham, we cover Stratford and the places around it.

Design visits and fitting in E15, E20 and E3 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. We cover homes on streets like Gay Road, Cam Road and Eve Road, whether you want TV and media units or another piece made for the room. If you’re just outside Stratford, we also cover Maryland (1 mile east), East Village (1 mile north-west), Temple Mills (1 mile north-west), West Ham (1 mile south-east) and Hackney Wick (1 mile west). Across the rest of Newham, our area takes in Plaistow (2 miles south-east), Canning Town (2 miles south-east), East Ham (3 miles east), Upton Park (2 miles east), Greengate (2 miles south-east) and Plashet (2 miles east). Stratford is one of the larger places we cover in Newham.

What’s near Stratford

We fit furniture in homes around The Two Puddings pub, Sarah Bonnell School and Carpenters Primary School. There is a railway station in Stratford itself: Stratford (London) station. A little further out are V&A East (0.5 miles west) and Stratford Centre (under half a mile south-east). For a walk, there is Old Ford Island.

When you need someone else

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • New sockets behind the TV, which need an electrician
  • Aerial, satellite or broadband installation
  • Configuring the TV and sound system

Not sure whether your space suits TV and media units? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll tell you. How a job runs, step by step.

Flats, leases and landlords

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

What prompts TV and media units in Stratford

Equipment on the floor is another reason. A unit gives every box its own space, with air to keep it cool.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • A cabinet that traps heat
  • A big screen that dominates the wall
  • A TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall
  • Leads that show from every angle

If you live near West Ham Park, a room that looks out on trees deserves a design that leaves the window alone.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
