How fitting day works

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Corners and door frames are covered as well. The sections are assembled in the room.

  1. You tell us about the room and how you use it.
  2. We visit to measure and go through the design and storage.
  3. A quote follows, covering the design and finish.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register handle the services.

Bespoke kitchens in Stratford

Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. A larder can have shelves, deep drawers and racks, planned around what you store. In an alcove or at the end of a run, it can use space that would otherwise be wasted. We make kitchens from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about cabinets for a narrow kitchen and a kitchen finished in your colours.

A large number of homes around Stratford date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age have compact kitchens. Made-to-measure cabinets use the gaps a standard kitchen leaves. Service boxing is designed around rather than left as dead space.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Before and after fitting day

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:

  • Check there’s room around an island before planning one
  • Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first
  • Have damp sorted before fitting
  • Make a note of what you use every day

Once the kitchen is fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Go easy on the painted surfaces at first and avoid harsh cleaners. After that, a soft cloth and mild soapy water is enough.

Measure the route into the kitchen along with the room itself. Workshop-made furniture comes in sections sized for stairs, hallways and lifts, so let us know about any narrow spots.

Kitchens in Stratford homes

In the area around Stratford, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 55%) and before 1919 (about 19%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Stratford, Historic England’s list includes The Theatre Royal (Grade II*), less than half a mile east, and University House (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles east. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home is on or just off a main road, it’s useful to mention it. We will plan where the van can stop.

Close to West Ham Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. For an older house near Church of St John the Evangelist, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Stratford is about 2 miles south-east of Plaistow, within the London Borough of Newham. Wherever you are in Stratford, it works the same way: a design visit, a written quote, furniture made at our workshop and fitting in your home. We cover places right across Newham, large and small.

Postcode districts we cover here for bespoke kitchens: E15, E20 and E3. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Gay Road, Cam Road and Eve Road, for bespoke kitchens and any of our other fitted furniture. Other places close to Stratford include Maryland (1 mile east), East Village (1 mile north-west), Temple Mills (1 mile north-west), West Ham (1 mile south-east) and Hackney Wick (1 mile west). Elsewhere in Newham, we also cover Plaistow (2 miles south-east), Canning Town (2 miles south-east), East Ham (3 miles east), Upton Park (2 miles east), Greengate (2 miles south-east) and Plashet (2 miles east). Being one of the larger places in Newham, Stratford is covered for bespoke kitchens and everything else we make.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

The problems bespoke kitchens solve

Many people come to us because a standard kitchen doesn’t suit their room. Standard units are made in fixed sizes, leaving gaps at the ends and above. A bespoke kitchen is made to the room instead.

Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:

  • Open shelves with cupboards below
  • A larder for food and small appliances
  • More storage in a small kitchen
  • Spaces sized for your oven and fridge

Living in a block of flats near Stratford (London) station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Stratford

Is Stratford in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes. Stratford is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Newham and London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Stratford?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

What happens during the design visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.

How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Every kitchen is different, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

Where other trades come in

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Wiring for appliances and lights
  • Plumbing, which is for your plumber
  • Making good walls and ceilings

Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can message us from the contact page and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.
