Common questions about TV and media units
Do you cover homes near Stratford (London) station?
Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
My home in Maryland is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. TV and media units are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
Who chooses the colour?
The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
How long will the fitting take?
How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We’ll explain what fitting day involves before we start.
TV and media units in Maryland
Media equipment warms up as it runs, so sealing equipment in a cupboard isn’t a good idea. We plan ventilation into the unit. Equipment makers often say how much space their boxes need around them. If you are living with speakers muffled behind doors and boxes and consoles on the floor, that’s what TV and media units are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
A large number of homes around Maryland date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats in newer blocks. Living rooms in newer homes can be compact, so shallower units and wall-hung cupboards keep the floor open. Boxing for pipes and risers is common in newer homes, and the furniture can be designed around it.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

What else we make in Maryland
Maryland homes and TV and media units
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Maryland were built since 2000 (about 55%) and before 1919 (about 19%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Within a mile of the centre of Maryland, 4 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Newer homes are more common around Maryland than across Newham: about 55% date from 2000 onwards, against about 29%, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Newer homes often have stud walls and compact rooms, so fixings and sizes are planned with that in mind.
Near listed buildings like The Theatre Royal, less than half a mile east of the centre of Maryland, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Close to West Ham Park? TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear.
Maryland is about 2 miles south-east of Plaistow, part of the London Borough of Newham. Design visits and fitting in Maryland can be on a Saturday, by prior arrangement. Our Newham coverage includes Maryland, along with the rest of the borough.
Every address in E15, E20 and E7 is within our area for TV and media units, from the main roads to the quieter streets. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Cam Road, Ward Road and Wise Road, along with the roads around them, for TV and media units and any of our other fitted furniture. Nearby, we also make TV and media units in Stratford (1 mile west), East Village (1 mile north-west), Temple Mills (1 mile north-west), West Ham (1 mile south-east) and Holloway Down (1 mile north). Across the rest of Newham, our area takes in Plaistow (2 miles south-east), Canning Town (2 miles south-east), East Ham (3 miles east), Upton Park (2 miles east), Greengate (2 miles south-east) and Plashet (2 miles east).
Landmarks near Maryland
In Maryland, that includes homes near The Two Puddings pub, Carpenters Primary School and Sarah Bonnell School, among other places. There is a railway station in Maryland itself: Stratford (London) station. Other landmarks nearby include Passmore Edwards Museum (0.5 miles east) and Queen Mary's Hospital for the East End (close by, under half a mile east). For a walk, there’s Old Ford Island.
How fitting works for TV and media units
In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so let us know what applies during the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
- We visit to measure and talk through the design and how the unit should look in the room.
- A written quote follows, with the finish set out.
- We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray-painted finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
- The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, and any hand painting is done in the room. Go gently with new paintwork while it cures.
Before we arrive
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Empty the space we will be working in
Getting a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Advice
Is bespoke worth it?
Bought units come in the maker’s finishes. Ours are painted in a colour agreed with you. Rooms in newer homes are often compact, and standard depths can take too much floor, while fitted furniture can be made shallower where space is tight. It still uses the full height.
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. Let us know about parking during the design visit.

Honest limits
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Structural changes to the wall
- Plastering or decorating around the unit
- Connecting the TV signal or internet

Flats, leases and landlords
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you contact us.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Do you need TV and media units in Maryland?
Others are tired of furniture that does not fit. Standard TV stands rarely suit an tricky wall, and that’s where a bespoke unit helps.
Some of the things we’re asked to solve include:
- Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
- Cables trailing across the wall
- Speakers muffled behind doors
- Wasted space around the screen
Living in a block of flats near Stratford (London) station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
What to check before you book
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
