Woodside Park TV and Media Units

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make TV and media units for homes in Woodside Park, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard
  • Somewhere to keep games tidy
  • Leads that show from every angle

Questions from Woodside Park

Is parking a problem for fitting in Woodside Park?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

I live in a flat in Woodside Park. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Will my boxes get too hot inside the unit?

We plan ventilation into the unit for boxes, consoles and amplifiers, with open backs, gaps or openings. Each box should have its own space.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

TV and media units in Woodside Park: what you get

Speakers need space to be heard properly. A soundbar usually sits just below the TV, while larger speakers suit open shelves at the sides. Speakers work best in the open rather than behind closed doors. Typical reasons to get in touch are boxes with no ventilation and empty alcoves beside the TV, and the answer is made in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Some living rooms in London have tall ceilings and cornices, while others have low, plain ceilings. However your room in Woodside Park is built, the height is measured as carefully as the width, since it sets how tall TV and media units can be. Sections are sized for the stairs and doors on the way in.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

TV and media units for homes in Woodside Park

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Woodside Park were built before 1919 (about 29%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 29%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Woodside Park include Lodge to Finchley Catholic High School (Grade II), less than half a mile north, and Terrace Cottage Terrace House (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Barnet included. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Woodside Park, as it does anywhere else in London. We go through parking and access at the design visit.

If your children go to Northside Primary School or a school nearby, low doors that small hands can open, with books and ornaments higher up, suit a busy family room. Heath Hall, about 3 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. If you live in a period home close to Saint Barnabas' Church, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

Woodside Park is about 1 mile south of Finchley, in the London Borough of Barnet. We design and make TV and media units for homes in Woodside Park and across Barnet. Across Barnet, we cover Woodside Park, along with the rest of the borough.

Every home in N12, N3 and N20 is within our area for TV and media units. Streets in the area include High Road, Lodge Lane and Percy Road, and we cover homes on all of them for TV and media units. Nearby, we also make TV and media units in North Finchley (1 mile east), Oakleigh Park (1 mile north-east), Whetstone (1 mile north-east), Church End (1 mile south) and Finchley (1 mile south). Elsewhere in Barnet, we also cover Barnet (2 miles north), Burnt Oak (3 miles west), East Finchley (2 miles south), Hendon (3 miles south-west), Edgware (4 miles west) and Southgate (2 miles east).

Landmarks near Woodside Park

Not far away are Woodridge Nature Reserve and Darland's Lake.

How fitting day works

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If you live in a block, check any rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours; if you live in a house, let us know about steps, paths and parking. Either way, the day is planned during the design visit. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You send us a note about the room and the unit you’d like.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and talk about colour and finish.
  3. A written quote follows, with the finish set out.
  4. The unit is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which takes paint well, and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied once it’s in and is easy to touch up later. Go gently with new paintwork while it cures.

Related advice

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Bought units often have a single cable gap, but the wires still show between the stand, the wall and the screen. A built-in unit has routes planned through it, with access panels for changes later. Standard widths and heights seldom suit an actual room, so it leaves gaps at the ends and empty space above. Fitted furniture is made to the room.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What you get with us

Practical tips

New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Check where the seating will go
  • Find out how much space each box needs around it
  • Book your electrician first if sockets need to move
  • Let us know about access early

Cupboard doors may settle slightly with use. Hinges can usually be adjusted to line them up again.

Heavy equipment is best kept low.

Flats, leases and landlords

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

Where other trades come in

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • New sockets behind the TV, which need an electrician
  • Aerial, satellite or broadband installation
  • Removing a chimney breast or any structural work

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.
