Walk-in wardrobes in Waddon

Hanging space is the heart of most walk-in wardrobes. Long hanging suits coats and dresses, and two rails stacked one above the other suit shirts, jackets and trousers. We plan the mix around what you actually wear. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about setting aside a corner of a large bedroom and proper shoe storage.

In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, bedrooms can be anything from a box room to a big front room. Walk-in wardrobes can work in any of them, from a small spare room to a main bedroom. Every wall in Waddon homes is measured on site, because none is assumed to be square.

A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

What it costs

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • How big the furniture is
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. It’s useful to talk about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.

What we need to know

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Approximate measurements of the space

Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

When you need someone else

We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:

  • Damp treatment or repairs
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • Structural changes or removing walls

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Bedrooms in Waddon: local notes

Homes built before 1919 make up about 29% of the housing in the streets around Waddon, with about 25% built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The National Heritage List records 7 entries within half a mile of the centre of Waddon. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

Living in a block of flats near Waddon station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. Near listed buildings like Airport House, about 0.6 miles south-west of the centre of Waddon, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For a family home near Aerodrome Primary Academy, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, as well as a bigger outlay. What you get is storage designed for what you own and the space you have. A standard unit is the same in every home, whatever the room is like, whereas fitted pieces are designed for one room: yours. The finish is chosen to suit the space.

There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.

How fitting day works

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. For a flat, building rules and lift booking are worth checking early; for a house, steps, paths and parking are the things to mention. Either way, the day is planned at the design visit. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the room. A line on how you’ll use the room helps.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, planned around the way you get dressed.
  3. You receive a quote in writing.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted in your home.

Before we arrive

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Getting a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough sizes and some pictures if you have them. When you’re ready, fill in our short enquiry form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.

Related advice

Questions we’re often asked

Is parking a problem for fitting in Waddon?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

How do you fit walk-in wardrobes in a flat in Waddon?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Walk-in wardrobes are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

Do pictures help?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?

Yes. A run of units can define a dressing area, and we fit the furniture once any building work is done.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
