About our fitted home offices in Broad Green

Storage keeps a home office calm. Drawers for stationery, cupboards for files and a printer, and shelves for books and folders, so the desk stays clear. Doors can hide the working things when you’re done. We design the storage around your work, wherever you are in Broad Green. If your home has a desk in the wrong light and a desk buried under papers, home offices made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

Light, desk height and closed storage matter more than size in a home office. Whatever kind of home you have in Broad Green, we plan those first. Desk depth and shelf positions are set around how you work.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Questions from Broad Green

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Broad Green?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

I live near West Croydon station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can I send pictures before the visit?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough measurements. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Is an alcove big enough for a desk?

In many homes, yes. A desk with shelving over it can fit neatly in an alcove. It’s scribed to the alcove walls so it fits closely. At the design visit we will measure and tell you what fits.

Do you wire in sockets for the home office?

Sockets and wiring are for your electrician, not us. We design the desk with cable routes and leave room where sockets will go. It helps to agree the positions at the design visit.

Materials and finishes

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting gives the desk and doors a very even surface. We apply it in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.

Moisture-resistant MDF

Doors and panels are made from moisture-resistant MDF. It holds its shape and takes paint well. Either finish suits it.

Is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf desks come in the maker’s finishes. We paint the office in the colour you choose, so it can match the room or the woodwork. Walls and floors are seldom perfectly flat in any home, so standalone furniture can lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room as they go in.

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

How fitting works for fitted home offices

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift along with the room itself, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route. We cover floors and doorways on the way in.

  1. First we hear about your work and the room you have in mind.
  2. At the design visit, the room is measured and the layout planned.
  3. We agree the desk, shelving and storage, and send a written quote, with the finish set out.
  4. The office is built in our workshop and painted in your colour.
  5. We fit it in your home and check every drawer and door with you. The cable routes are left ready to use.

Preparing the room

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Arranging a design visit

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Advice

Flats, conversions and lettings

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route during the design visit.

Fitted home offices in Broad Green: local notes

In the area around Broad Green, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 38%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 22%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Broad Green include West Croydon United Reformed Church (Grade II), under half a mile west, and Church of St Saviour (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Croydon is no exception. Where a street in Broad Green is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. Let us know about parking at the design visit.

Living in a block of flats near West Croydon station? Then the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. If your children go to Elmwood Infant School or a school nearby, a built-in desk can be shared between home working and homework. If you live in a period home close to Church of St Saviour, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.
