Our fitted wardrobes across CR7
You can choose hinged or sliding doors. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, though they need room in front to open. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are dusty space on top of the wardrobe and mismatched bedroom furniture.
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made in our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- You send us a few details about the room and the storage you need.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the design.
- You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling.
What goes into your quote
We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, message us from the contact page.
Why work with us
- Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Finished by spray or by hand
- We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
- Scribed to uneven walls
Arranging a design visit
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Homes across CR7 and their bedrooms
In CR7, a spare room often doubles as a study or a guest room. Fitted wardrobes can be planned so the room switches between them.
About 47% of the homes in the CR7 postcode district went up before 1919, and about 27% between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. More than a third of the homes in the CR7 postcode district (about 47%) were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths, scribed to walls that aren’t straight. About 27% of homes in CR7 date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.
We make fitted furniture for every kind of home in CR7, from Victorian terraces to new-build flats. Wherever you live, it starts with a visit and a quote.
Thornton Heath: Kingswood House, about 2.4 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If you live near Grangewood Park, fitted wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.
Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?
Standard wardrobes cannot follow a slope. A bespoke wardrobe can be shaped to follow the slope, with hanging where it is tall and drawers or shelves where it is low.
What to check before you book
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
Looking after your furniture
People planning fitted wardrobes often ask about these. They help before and after fitting:
- Empty the area where we’ll be working
- For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
- List the things that will not hang, such as jumpers and shoes
- Let us know which walls face outside
Leave a little space between clothes and the back of the wardrobe where the wardrobe sits on an outside wall. A little airflow helps keep damp at bay.
Every so often, check that nothing has worked loose.
Honest limits
We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:
- Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
Could you do it yourself?
It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s easy to buy.
Materials and finishes
Doors and drawer fronts
Hinged doors suit rooms with space in front. In a narrow room, sliding doors save space.
Plinths and scribe strips
Most fitted wardrobes in older homes need scribing at the sides and top. It’s what gives a fitted wardrobe its built-in look.
Your questions about fitted wardrobes in CR7
Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?
Both work well, depending on the space. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front, while sliding doors save space but only open part of the wardrobe at a time. We talk through both at the measuring visit.
Do you work outside London?
No. We only take on work in London.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
We plan the sections around the route into your flat. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character.
What happens at the measuring visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.
Is it possible to have storage over the bed?
Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. It’s planned so there’s room around the bed and the room doesn’t feel enclosed.
Can I choose the layout inside the wardrobe?
It’s worked out with you when we measure, based on what you wear and how much of it there is. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.
