Walk-in wardrobes in Bloomsbury: what you get

Most designs start with the hanging. Long hanging suits coats and dresses, while double hanging, one rail above another, fits shirts and jackets into half the height. We plan the mix around what you actually wear. If you are living with a dressing table with drawers and a mirror and storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.

Purpose-built flats are home to most households around Bloomsbury, and many blocks have rules about using the lift and when work can happen. Checking with the building’s managing agent early keeps the day running smoothly. If your flat is leasehold, your lease may also need checking before walk-in wardrobes are fixed to the walls.

We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished.

When you need someone else

Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we don’t do:

  • Lighting and wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Plastering, decorating or flooring
  • Advice on your lease

Not sure whether your space suits walk-in wardrobes? You can message us from the contact page and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

What it’s made from

  • Dressing table
  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Shoe storage
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hanging, shelves and drawers

What it costs

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The width and height of the space

There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, message us from the contact page.

What we need to know

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. It is enough to send:

  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Neither choice is right for every home. For a simple space, off-the-shelf can do the job. Where the room is awkward or you want it to feel built in, bespoke is normally the better fit. Off-the-shelf furniture is sized for an average room, and flats are rarely average, so it can waste space or block a door or radiator. Fitted furniture is planned around those.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Why choose us

  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • We work across all London boroughs

Questions from Bloomsbury

I live in a flat in Bloomsbury. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

I live near London Euston station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Camden and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Should I send pictures?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Bloomsbury

Homes built before 1919 make up about 44% of the housing in the area around Bloomsbury, with about 21% built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Within a mile of the centre of Bloomsbury, 24 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. A van working in Bloomsbury will usually need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. Tell us what parking is near you during the design visit.

For families living near UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If you live near Lincoln's Inn Fields, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Pancras, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

What happens on fitting day

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. For a flat, the stairs, landings, lift and doors are measured along with the room itself: the furniture is made in sections that fit through all of them. Mansion block lifts can be small, and some blocks have no lift at all.

  1. You let us know about the room and what you want to store.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers, including any dressing table.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build everything in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Getting a quote

Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Could you do it yourself?

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.

It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
