Walk-in wardrobes in Foxbury
Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Foxbury
With a walk-in wardrobe, clothes, shoes and bags have a space to themselves. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, with hanging rails, shelving and drawers planned around what you own. We make it all in our workshop and fit it in your home, so it follows the walls and sits level. If your home has separate space for two people’s clothes and a built-in dressing table, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
If you live in one of the post-war homes around Foxbury, bedrooms are often compact but simple to plan. Where there is not much space in front, a careful layout helps everything fit. Walls of that age can be harder to drill than plaster on brick, so the right fixings matter.
You get the quote in writing, so there is time to read it properly. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Foxbury
Is parking a problem for fitting in Foxbury?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.
Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in Foxbury?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each walk-in wardrobe is different, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.
Do pictures help?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Tips worth knowing
New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Make sure walls are dry before units go in
- Give the paint time to cure fully
- Talk to your electrician early about lighting
- Sort through your clothes before the design visit
Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up. A spray finish gives a smooth surface that wipes clean.
If you want a partition to create the walk-in wardrobe, talk to a builder first. We make and fit the units inside.
Why bespoke in Foxbury?
A basic rail system is easy to change, and that has real appeal. A fitted walk-in wardrobe adds doors, drawers and shelves where you want them, in a finish that suits the house. A room without alcoves gives ready-made furniture nothing to sit into, so it stands out from the wall, whereas fitted furniture can make its own recesses.
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
Why us?
- Made for your room, not a standard size
- Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
- Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Scribed to uneven walls

Fitted bedroom furniture in Foxbury
About 30% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Foxbury went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 23% before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Foxbury include Frogpool Manor Farm (Grade II), less than half a mile east, and Rose Cottage (Grade II), under half a mile south. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Around a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Foxbury (about 30%) were built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Bedrooms from that era tend to be regular, so fitted furniture can run wall to wall, with fixings chosen for concrete, block or brick.
For an older house near Christ Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. Eltham Palace, about 2.6 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

- Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
- A calmer, clearer bedroom
- Turning a box room into a dressing room
- Room for two wardrobes in one space
If you live near Chislehurst Common, walk-in wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a post-war block of flats, the route in may include communal stairs, landings and a lift, so walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for each. Let us know about any building rules on lifts or working hours at the measuring visit.
- To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
- A written quote follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
- We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
- Keep pets in another room while we work
