Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Haverstock

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Haverstock

Some people want doors on everything; others like open shelves and rails. Doors give a tidy, finished look and help keep dust away, and open rails make it quick to find things. The choice is yours, and we’ll go through it when we measure. People normally come to us about a dressing area in part of a bedroom and storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Floors in older houses often slope, which matters around Haverstock, as a large share of homes there date from before 1919. Pieces stand on a levelled plinth or adjustable feet, so doors close square and the gaps stay even. The scribe at the wall takes up any bow in the plaster.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What it is made from

Spray-painted finish

The colour is agreed with you before we spray.

Moisture-resistant MDF

We use moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, giving a smooth finish.

Before and after fitting day

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Sort through your clothes before the design visit
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Deal with any damp walls first
  • Think about long versus double hanging

Keep the room ventilated, particularly on a cooler external wall. Leave a little space behind hanging clothes to help air move.

If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. We can’t advise on your lease.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Is parking a problem for fitting in Haverstock?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to South Hampstead station?

Yes. We cover all of Camden and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. We cannot advise on leases, so please check yours.

My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Is ventilation important in a dressing room?

Yes, it helps keep clothes fresh and damp away. The design allows air to circulate, and any damp on the walls should be sorted before fitting.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Haverstock

The most common reason is simply running out of wardrobe space. Clothes are squashed together and shoes pile up. A walk-in wardrobe gives everything room.

We’re often asked to help with:

  • Long and double hanging planned around your clothes
  • A dressing area in part of a bedroom
  • Room for two wardrobes in one space
  • Shelves for shoes and bags

If you live in a period home close to Church of St Mary the Virgin, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so it is useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and what you want to store.
  2. We visit, measure up and plan the layout with you.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the layout, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. We build the carcasses, drawers and shelves in our workshop.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Ask for a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough sizes and some pictures if you have them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Advice

Bedroom storage in Haverstock

Homes built before 1919 make up about 46% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Haverstock, with about 23% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Within a mile of the centre of Haverstock, 15 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. About 30% of households in the area around Haverstock live in flats in converted or shared houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the route in may go through a shared hall and stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it is worth checking yours first.

For a family home near Fine Arts College, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. The wider area includes historic houses such as Keats House, about 0.8 miles north. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

Haverstock is in the London Borough of Camden, about 2 miles south-east of St Pancras. Wherever you are in Haverstock, it works the same way: a design visit, a quote in writing, furniture made at our workshop and fitting in your home. We cover places right across Camden.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
