Need walk-in wardrobes in Chalk Farm?

What it costs

There is no set price, because there is no set room. The things that affect it are:

  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What we need to know

When you contact us, these help most:

  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Approximate measurements of the space

To make a start, get in touch through our contact form and let us know which room you have in mind. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Chalk Farm

You can have doors, open storage or a mix. Doors keep dust off and give a calm look, while open storage lets you see everything at once. We’ll go through the options at the measuring visit. If you’re living with room for two wardrobes in one space and more space for clothes and shoes, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

With most households around Chalk Farm in purpose-built flats, mansion blocks and modern blocks are both possible. A mansion block bedroom may have a chimney breast, high ceilings and walls that aren’t straight, while modern flats tend to have plasterboard partitions. Either way, walk-in wardrobes are fixed to suit the wall.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Questions we’re often asked

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Chalk Farm?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

How do you fit walk-in wardrobes in a flat in Chalk Farm?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?

Yes. A run of units can define a dressing area, while any new walls are for your builder.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character.

Does a walk-in wardrobe need air flow?

Yes. A room full of clothes needs air moving through it, particularly on an external wall, which can be colder and damper. The units are designed with ventilation in mind.

Is it better to have doors or open storage?

That depends on how you like to use the space. We can fit doors, open storage or both, and we go through the options when we measure.

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.

Chalk Farm homes and walk-in wardrobes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Chalk Farm were built before 1919 (about 41%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 24%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The National Heritage List has 129 entries within half a mile of the centre of Chalk Farm. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and walk-in wardrobes can be designed to work around them. Much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs. So a van fitting furniture in Chalk Farm normally needs a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council. We ask about parking at the design visit, so the van can be planned for.

For a family home near Haverstock School, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If your home is one of the older houses near St Silas Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. Living in a block of flats near Kentish Town West station? Then walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. With little room to spare in a flat, pieces come in as they’re needed. Floors are covered and dust is kept down. The fixings suit each wall, whether solid or stud.

  1. We start with the room you have in mind and what needs a home. It could be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom.
  2. We come to measure the room and go through how the space should work, with shoe storage and a dressing table if you’d like them.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the layout, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is made and finished in our workshop.
  5. We bring everything to your home and fit it to the room. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Before fitting day

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Starting with a design visit

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.
