Walk-in wardrobes in North End
A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, with doors or left open. Any new partition wall is for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. If your home has moving wardrobes out of the bedroom and a use for a small spare room, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.
Many homes around North End date from the post-war decades, and London’s post-war housing includes flats in blocks as well as houses. Ceiling heights are often lower than in older homes, and the proportions of walk-in wardrobes follow the room. In a block of flats, each piece is made in sections that fit the stairs or lift, then assembled in the room.
After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in North End
Most people come to us because their clothes have outgrown their wardrobes. Clothes are squashed together and shoes pile up. A walk-in wardrobe gives everything room.
Here’s what walk-in wardrobes can help with:
- Turning a box room into a dressing room
- Room for a growing wardrobe
- Somewhere for shoes to live
- Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts
If you live in a flat close to Slade Green station, it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.
Before you choose who makes it
- How they handle walls that aren’t straight
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- How doors and drawers are fitted
How it is made
Moisture-resistant MDF
We use moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, giving a smooth finish.
Doors and drawer fronts
We make doors in a style that suits the room, painted to match. You can mix doors with open storage.
Tips worth knowing
New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Sort through your clothes before the design visit
- Talk to your electrician early about lighting
- Wipe painted surfaces with a soft, damp cloth
Let air move through the walk-in wardrobe, particularly if it’s on an external wall. Avoid packing clothes tight against the back of the units, so air can circulate.
Talk to your electrician early about lighting. New lights and wiring are for them, and it is easier to plan the units around it from the start.
How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Post-war houses tend to have straightforward halls and stairs, so carrying in is rarely difficult. Even so, the route is measured at the design visit. The pieces are assembled, levelled and fixed in place, with floors protected throughout.
- You get in touch and describe the room.
- At the design visit we agree the layout and check how the units will reach the room.
- We send a written quote.
- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
- We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls.
Before we arrive
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
Getting a quote
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Advice
Bedrooms in North End: local notes
Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 33% of the housing in the streets around North End, with about 29% built between 1973 and 1999, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The Oak Road Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of North End. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. Your council can advise if you are unsure. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your street in North End joins a main road, it is worth telling us during the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Hall Place and Gardens, about 2 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. If your children go to St. Paul's (Slade Green) Church of England Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
North End is in the London Borough of Bexley, about 5 miles south-west of Sidcup. From period terraces to newer flats in North End, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Our Bexley coverage includes North End, along with the rest of the borough.
In DA8, DA1 and DA7, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Oak Road, Elm Road and Moat Lane, along with the roads around them, for walk-in wardrobes and any of our other fitted furniture. Close by, we also work in Slade Green (1 mile east), Bexley Riverside (1 mile west), Barnehurst (1 mile west) and Northumberland Heath (1 mile west). We also make walk-in wardrobes in nearby places like Sidcup (5 miles south-west), Welling (4 miles west), Bexley (3 miles south-west), Belvedere (2 miles north-west), Lessness Heath (2 miles north-west) and Bexleyheath (2 miles west).

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in North End
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Is North End in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?
Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London, and North End is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.
Can you turn a small spare room into a dressing room?
Often, yes. The layout depends on the room, the door and the window, so we work it out when we measure.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It is useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?
Yes, if there’s enough space. A section of the room can become a dressing area, with doors or left open. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Where other trades come in
Not everything around walk-in wardrobes is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:
- New lights or sockets
- Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
- Fixing the cause of damp
If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.
