Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room
Is it time for walk-in wardrobes?
Sometimes a house changes and a room becomes spare. A walk-in wardrobe is a popular way to use it.
Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:
- The right mix of long and short hanging
- Room for a growing wardrobe
- Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
- Shelves for shoes and bags
For an older house near Church of St Paulinus, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Before you choose who makes it
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- How parking will work on your street
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
Walk-in wardrobes in Barnehurst: what you get
Hanging space is the heart of most walk-in wardrobes. Full-length hanging takes coats, dresses and long garments, and two rails stacked one above the other suit shirts, jackets and trousers. We plan the mix around what you actually wear. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about somewhere to sit and get ready and long and double hanging planned around your clothes.
Around Barnehurst, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. Many 1930s houses have a small box room over the stairs, often with a raised bulkhead in the floor, and the bulkhead is built around rather than ignored. Main bedrooms from that era are often a good size, with a bay window at the front.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Barnehurst
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Barnehurst?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit.
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Barnehurst?
Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London, and Barnehurst is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease, so it is worth checking before fitting day.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
It is something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.
Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?
Yes. Air needs to circulate around stored clothes, particularly on an external wall, which can be colder and damper. We allow for ventilation in the design.
Can you turn a small spare room into a dressing room?
Often, yes. We can line a small room with hanging, shelving and drawers, while leaving space to stand and turn. We will measure and plan it at the measuring visit.
What happens on fitting day
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.
- We start with the space and the clothes it needs to hold.
- We visit to measure up and go through the layout, including any dressing table.
- A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready for you to check.
- We build everything in our workshop.
- We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.
How to prepare
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
Getting a quote
We quote once we’ve seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a quote in writing. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To book a design visit, message us from the contact page.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.
Walk-in wardrobes in Barnehurst: local notes
About 40% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Barnehurst went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 31% between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Barnehurst, Historic England’s list includes Parish Church of St Paulinus (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south-east, and One Bell Public House (Grade II), about 0.6 miles south-east. If your own home is listed, internal works that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Barnehurst is covered by it. How the van gets to your door is planned at the design visit.
Close to Braeburn Park? Keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. The wider area includes historic houses like Hall Place and Gardens, about 1 mile south-west. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Barnehurst
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Parking and unloading on your street
- The internal fittings
- The width and height of the space
Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That’s reflected in the quote.
Before the design visit
What helps most when you first contact us:
