Walk-in wardrobes in Hounslow West: what you get

We fit walk-in wardrobes in Hounslow West and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and talking through the design, then a quote in writing. Everything is built in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you will know before we start. If you’re living with a dressing table with drawers and a mirror and a side each for a couple, walk-in wardrobes made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Around Hounslow West, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the third bedroom is often small, sitting over the stairs. That is where walk-in wardrobes earn their place, making a small room work as a dressing room, a guest room or both. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished.

Bedrooms in Hounslow West: local notes

About 33% of the homes in the streets around Hounslow West went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 19% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The National Heritage List records 14 entries within half a mile of the centre of Hounslow West. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Hounslow is inside it. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Hounslow West is covered by it. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.

Osterley House, about 2.1 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If you live near Hounslow Heath, walk-in wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Paul, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Fitting day, step by step

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it’s worth mentioning at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the walk-in wardrobe.
  4. The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.

Preparing the room

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Getting a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, once we’ve measured the way in.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

There’s a place for both. For a simple space, off-the-shelf can do the job. Where the room is awkward or you want it to feel built in, bespoke is normally the better fit. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, which shows up against standard furniture. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Why choose us

  • Fitted tight to walls that are not straight
  • Every quote follows a design visit
  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
  • Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home

Read bespoke vs off-the-shelf or how to compare quotes.

Before and after fitting day

None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Measure how much long hanging you need
  • Let air move through the space
  • Count your shoes before the design visit
  • Plan lighting with your electrician

Keep heavy items low and lighter ones high and spread the weight along the rails. It helps the shelves and rails stay straight.

If you want a partition to create the walk-in wardrobe, talk to a builder first. We fit the furniture once the room is ready.

Questions from Hounslow West

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Hounslow West?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it’s useful to be around at the end.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you.

Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?

Yes. We design the units to make a dressing area within the bedroom, and we fit the furniture once any building work is done.
