Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Putney Vale
Walk-in wardrobes in Putney Vale: what you get
Good light helps you see colours and find things, and any new lights or wiring are for your electrician. We plan the units with your electrician’s work in mind and agree the details when we measure. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are somewhere to sit and get ready and the right mix of long and short hanging.
Around Putney Vale, where many homes date from the post-war decades, bedrooms are often compact but simple to plan. Where there isn’t much space in front, a careful layout helps everything fit. Walls of that age can be harder to drill than plaster on brick, so the right fixings matter.
You get the quote in writing, so there is time to read it properly. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
Modular units are made in fixed sizes, so the space above and at the ends is often wasted. A bespoke design can run to the ceiling and fill the walls, so very little space goes to waste. Off-the-shelf furniture tends to leave gaps at the ends of a wall and space above it, which fitted furniture uses. Every width is made for the room.
Rooms that are not square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, written once we’ve measured up.

Questions from Putney Vale
I live in a flat in Putney Vale. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Putney Vale?
Yes. Putney Vale is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Wandsworth and London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details.
What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Each walk-in wardrobe is different, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
Do you do the electrics?
No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
Do I need doors on a walk-in wardrobe?
There is no single right answer. Doors, open rails and shelves can all be combined, and we’ll talk it through during the design visit.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Bedroom storage in Putney Vale
Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 71% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Putney Vale, with about 12% built between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Putney Vale, Historic England’s list includes Dorich House (Grade II), about 0.5 miles west. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Wandsworth included. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Putney Vale. Access and parking are talked through at the measuring visit.
Southside House, about 1.5 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. For a flat near Raynes Park station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. If you live near Wimbledon Common, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window.

Flats, leases and landlords
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you get in touch.

Hanging rails
Double hanging puts one rail above another make good use of the height.
Moisture-resistant MDF
On a cooler external wall, moisture-resistant MDF is a sensible choice, alongside good ventilation.
Fitting day, step by step
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, one at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Drilling into concrete is noisier than into brick or plaster, so if neighbours are close, a note before fitting day can help. We work within any rules your building has on noise and hours. We tidy as we go.
- You tell us about the room and what you want to store.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers, including any dressing table.
- We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
- We build everything in our workshop.
- Fitting day: the units are fitted and trimmed to the room.
How to prepare
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Keep pets in another room while we work
Starting with a design visit
Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, message us from the contact page. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
