Walk-in Wardrobes in Battersea

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Battersea, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A bedroom without crowded wardrobes
  • Turning a box room into a dressing room
  • The right mix of long and short hanging

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Battersea

What you pay depends on:

  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • The width and height of the space
  • How many doors and drawers there are

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What we need to know

These details help when you contact us:

  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • How you want to use the space
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Approximate measurements of the space

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing for you to look over. To arrange the visit, use our contact form.

Walk-in wardrobes in Battersea

Some people want doors on everything; others like open shelves and rails. Doors give a tidy, finished look and help keep dust away, and open rails make it quick to find things. We will talk through the options during the design visit. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are somewhere to sit and get ready and a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom.

With a large share of homes around Battersea built before 1919, plenty of bedrooms have solid brick external walls. Cold external walls can lead to condensation, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture is part of the design. Smaller back bedrooms in houses of that age are good places for walk-in wardrobes.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Battersea

Homes built before 1919 make up about 48% of the housing in the area around Battersea, with about 20% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. There are 21 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Battersea. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your street in Battersea joins a main road, it is worth telling us during the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

For families living near Christ Church CofE Primary School, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Near listed buildings like Church of St Mark, under half a mile south-west of the centre of Battersea, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Battersea

Sometimes a house changes and a room becomes spare. A walk-in wardrobe is a popular way to use it.

We are often asked to help with:

  • A calmer, clearer bedroom
  • A walk-in wardrobe in a box room
  • A dressing area in part of a bedroom
  • Somewhere for shoes to live

For a flat near Clapham Junction station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Will the quote be in writing?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Before and after fitting day

Getting the most from walk-in wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Consider a mix of doors and open shelves
  • Have a clear-out before we measure
  • Have damp sorted before fitting
  • Count your shoes before the design visit

Keep the room ventilated, particularly on a cooler external wall. Leave a little space behind hanging clothes to help air move.

Plan any lighting with your electrician in good time. Wiring is their work, not ours, and the units can be designed around the lighting.

When you need someone else

We make and fit furniture, and we don’t do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Painting the walls of the room
  • Building work to create the room
  • New lights or sockets

Not sure whether your space suits walk-in wardrobes? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will tell you. Our process from visit to fitting.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Do you cover homes near Clapham Junction station?

Yes, homes across Wandsworth and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

What happens when you come to measure?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too.

Is ventilation important in a dressing room?

Yes. Air needs to circulate around stored clothes, particularly against a cooler external wall. The units are designed with ventilation in mind.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Do I need doors on a walk-in wardrobe?

It’s your choice. Doors give a tidy look and help keep dust away, while open rails and shelves let you see everything. A mix of the two is common.

How fitting day works

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Scribing is done on site, which means some cutting in the room or close by, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.

  1. First, you let us know about the space.
  2. We visit, measure and talk through hanging, shoe storage and a dressing table.
  3. You receive a written quote, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted in your home. Each unit is set level and scribed to the walls.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
