Walk-in wardrobes across Wandsworth: what to expect
Ventilation matters in a room full of clothes, particularly where it sits against a cooler external wall. Moving air helps keep clothes fresh and stops damp building up, and we design the units to allow for it. Typical reasons to get in touch are setting aside a corner of a large bedroom and somewhere for shoes to live; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.
- First, you let us know about the space. A line on how you will use the room helps.
- We visit, measure and talk through hanging, shoe storage and a dressing table.
- You receive a written quote.
- Everything is built in our workshop.
- We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer.
Quotes in Wandsworth
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Walk-in wardrobes across Wandsworth: local notes
Wandsworth has bedrooms of every shape, from bay-fronted rooms in older houses to tight rooms in modern flats. Walk-in wardrobes are drawn up to suit the room you actually have, with the inside laid out around what you keep.
In Wandsworth, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 44%) and the years since 2000 (about 21%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. About 44% of homes in Wandsworth were built before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Houses of that age often have a small back bedroom or box room that can become a walk-in wardrobe, with storage scribed to walls that wander. Purpose-built flats are home to about 48% of households in Wandsworth, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
We cover the whole of London, so homes in Wandsworth are well within our area. Let us know about access and parking when you first get in touch.
Clapham Junction: For families living near Christ Church CofE Primary School, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Close to Imperial Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window.
Could you do it yourself?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.

Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers keep smaller clothes and accessories tidy, and they can sit below the hanging or shelves.
Birch plywood
Drawers are opened every day, so we make them strong.
Why people ask for walk-in wardrobes in Wandsworth
Others want to clear the bedroom of wardrobes. With clothes in a dressing room, the bedroom can feel more restful.
Here’s what walk-in wardrobes can help with:
- Turning a box room into a dressing room
- Shelves for shoes and bags
- Somewhere to sit and get ready
- Separate space for two people’s clothes
Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Wandsworth
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- How square the room is
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Before the design visit
You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
What we do not do
Before you plan the job, it’s useful to know what we do not do:
- Fixing the cause of damp
- Plastering, decorating or flooring
- Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
Questions we are often asked
How long will the walk-in wardrobe take to fit?
How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
Is it better to have doors or open storage?
There is no single right answer. We can fit doors, open storage or both, and we go through the options when we measure.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, but it’s useful to be around at the end.
Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?
Yes. A run of units can define a dressing area, while any new walls are for your builder.
Can a box room become a walk-in wardrobe?
In many cases, yes. It depends on the room’s shape and where the door and window sit. We plan it during the design visit.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Typically not. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you tell us about the room on our contact form.
