Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Roehampton
We fit walk-in wardrobes in Roehampton and across London. It starts with a design visit to measure and plan the layout, then a quote in writing. Everything is built in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you will know before we start. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are the right mix of long and short hanging and room for two wardrobes in one space.
A bedroom in a 1950s or 1960s home is typically a simple rectangle, often with the window on the outside wall and the door near a corner. Many homes around Roehampton date from between 1945 and the early 1970s, so fitted furniture can often take a whole wall without tricky cuts. The space in front is planned first, so doors open fully.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Flats, leases and landlords
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising at the measuring visit.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, once we’ve measured the way in.
What happens on fitting day
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Post-war blocks often have shared stairwells and lifts, so the furniture comes in sections that fit them. If the building has rules on lift use or working hours, it’s useful to tell us at the design visit.
- You tell us about the room and what you want to store.
- We visit to measure up and go through the layout, including any dressing table.
- A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready for you to check.
- The units are made and finished in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the units are fitted and trimmed to the room. We then check the doors and drawers with you.
How to prepare
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
Getting a quote

Roehampton homes and walk-in wardrobes
About 46% of the homes in the streets around Roehampton went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 18% between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Roehampton is in the Dover House Estate Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Wandsworth included. Vans bringing furniture to Roehampton fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.
For families living near Granard Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. Close to Putney Heath? Keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. If you live in a flat close to Barnes station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes
Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- The width and height of the space
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Let us know about parking at the design visit.
Getting in touch
A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Examples of the look you are after
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Roehampton
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Roehampton?
Yes. Roehampton is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Wandsworth and London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do you cover homes near Barnes station?
Yes. We cover all of Wandsworth and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Do I need doors on a walk-in wardrobe?
That depends on how you like to use the space. We can fit doors, open storage or both, and we go through the options when we measure.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
Can a walk-in wardrobe be part of a bedroom?
Yes, if there is enough space. One end or a corner can be set aside with a run of units, with doors or left open. A new partition wall is building work, so that is for your builder.
