A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, either open to the room or behind doors. Any new partition wall is for your builder, and we fit the furniture inside. If you are living with a calmer, clearer bedroom and long and double hanging planned around your clothes, walk-in wardrobes made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
A bedroom in a house from between the wars usually has simpler mouldings than a Victorian one, which makes it simple to take fitted furniture up to the ceiling. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Queensbury, the top cupboards can hold suitcases and spare bedding. Skirting boards are cut around neatly.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Queensbury?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
I live near Kenton station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Harrow and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?
It’s something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We will design around them.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Usually not. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can require listed building consent.
Tips worth knowing
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Line up your electrician for any new lights
- Think about long versus double hanging
- Consider a mix of doors and open shelves
- Let air move through the space
Adjustable shelves can be moved as your clothes change to suit what you store. A seasonal tidy keeps it working well.
Talk to your electrician early about lighting. Wiring is their work, not ours, and it is easier to plan the units around it from the start.
What happens on fitting day
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

Advice
Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Queensbury
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Queensbury were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 80%) and since 2000 (about 8%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Queensbury is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. More than half of the homes in the neighbourhood around Queensbury (about 80%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead.
For a family home near Glebe Primary School, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. Close to Roe Green Park? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. Headstone Manor, about 2.7 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Moisture-resistant MDF
We use moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, giving a smooth finish.
How we price walk-in wardrobes
The price for your room depends on:
- The overall size of the piece
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Helping us understand the room
These details help when you get in touch:
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Your postcode and the borough
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Is bespoke worth it?
Standard systems come in set widths and heights, so the space above and at the ends is often wasted. A bespoke design can run to the ceiling and fill the walls, so very little space goes to waste. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit.
