Wall beds for homes in Queensbury

Safety starts with the fixing: the mechanism is fixed as its maker specifies, to a wall and floor that can take the load. At the design visit we look at the wall it will go on as solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard all need different fixings. If your home has a bed that fills a little-used room and a proper bed instead of a sofa bed, wall beds made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the housing around Queensbury, bedrooms are often simple shapes, sometimes with a chimney breast or a bay. Fitted furniture can run along the longest wall, with the inside arranged to suit you. If the loft has been converted, sloping ceilings bring their own options.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Fitting day, step by step

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the measuring visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how often the bed is used.
  2. We visit, measure up and check the wall the bed will fix to.
  3. You get a written quote for the bed cabinet and any storage around it, for you to look over.
  4. We build and finish the bed housing and storage in our workshop.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check the bed lowers and lifts smoothly.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Honest limits

We make and fit furniture, and we don’t do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Decorating around the cabinet
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • Building work to make a wall sound

If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

Materials and parts

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Shelves or a desk alongside
  • Fold-down bed mechanism
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish

Before and after fitting day

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Tell us what the wall is made of if you know
  • Check your lease if you live in a flat
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Keep the floor in front clear before lowering the bed

The mechanism maker’s guidance says how much bedding can stay on the bed when it folds away. We can build a cupboard beside the bed for extra bedding.

If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Queensbury

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 80% of the housing in the streets around Queensbury, with about 8% built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Part of Queensbury is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. All of London, Harrow included, is inside the ULEZ. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Queensbury. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.

The wider area includes historic houses like Headstone Manor, about 2.7 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice. Close to Roe Green Park? Wall beds are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. For families living near Glebe Primary School, the inside of wall beds can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

Queensbury is about 3 miles south-west of Harrow, in the London Borough of Harrow. Whether your home in Queensbury is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, we measure the room as it is and design around it. Our Harrow coverage includes Queensbury and the places around it.

What affects the price in Queensbury

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

What to send when you get in touch

A few details help us understand the job before we visit. It’s useful to include:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • How you want to use the space

A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. When you are ready, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a written quote.

Your questions about wall beds in Queensbury

Does a conservation area in or near Queensbury affect fitted furniture?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Queensbury?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Do you do plastering or decorating?

No. Our work is the furniture, not the walls. We finish the furniture itself, as set out in your quote.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

The furniture is built in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the measuring visit.

Do you work in Queensbury?

Yes. We cover Queensbury and the rest of Harrow, as part of our work across all London boroughs. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Do you work outside London?

No. Our work is in London only: all 32 boroughs and the City of London.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
