Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room

Walk-in wardrobes in South Acton: what you get

A walk-in wardrobe needs air moving through it, particularly where it sits against a cooler external wall. Moving air helps keep clothes fresh and stops damp building up, so we allow for it in the design. If you’re living with proper shoe storage and a bedroom without crowded wardrobes, walk-in wardrobes made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

The positions of the window, the radiator and the door shape a bedroom more than its size. Whatever kind of home you have in South Acton, we start there, then plan fitted furniture on the walls that are left. Furniture is kept clear of radiators so the room stays warm.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

From workshop to your room

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand makes the day easier, including anything on the walls near the work. Floors and doorways are protected before anything comes in. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the room. A line on how you will use the room helps.
  2. We visit, measure and talk through hanging, shoe storage and a dressing table, planned around the way you get dressed.
  3. You receive a quote in writing.
  4. The units are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer.

Starting with a design visit

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

South Acton homes and walk-in wardrobes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around South Acton were built before 1919 (about 41%) and since 2000 (about 26%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. There are 21 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of South Acton. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and walk-in wardrobes can be designed to work around them. A quarter or more of the homes in the area around South Acton (about 26%) were built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Bedrooms in homes built since 2000 tend to be compact, with stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs.

Living in a block of flats near South Acton station? Then it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. For an older house near Church of All Saints, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Gunnersbury House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Looking after your furniture

Looking after painted furniture is simple. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Sort through your clothes before the design visit
  • Keep the room ventilated
  • Count your coats and long garments
  • Think about whether you want doors

New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.

Plan any lighting with your electrician in good time. New lights and wiring are for them, and it’s easier to plan the units around it from the start.

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in South Acton

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • The overall size of the piece
  • How square the room is
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that is part of the price. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

What to send when you contact us

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • How you want to use the space
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit. To arrange it, use our contact form. The written quote follows the visit.

Questions from South Acton

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in South Acton?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit.

I live near South Acton station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

Is ventilation important in a dressing room?

Yes, it helps avoid condensation and mould. We design the units to let air move and walls should be dry before we fit.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

It is something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Flats, leases and landlords

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the design visit.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

Off-the-shelf wardrobe systems are quicker to get and typically cost less, and in a simple room they may suit. In an older room with uneven walls and a sloping floor, they leave gaps. Ours is built to the room’s real shape. Standard widths and heights seldom suit an actual room, which leaves gaps at the sides and wasted space on top. Fitted furniture is made to the room.

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
