  • Proper shoe storage
  • A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
  • Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom

Walk-in wardrobes in Bedford Park

Caring for painted furniture

None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:

  • Decide on doors or open storage before we measure
  • Line up your electrician for any new lights
  • Plan shoe storage around what you own
  • Keep the room ventilated

Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth.

Plan any lighting with your electrician in good time. Wiring is their work, not ours, and the units can be designed around the lighting.

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Bedford Park

Beyond the hanging, drawers, shelves and shoe storage do a lot of the work. Folded knitwear sits well on shelves, smaller things go in drawers and shoes can have racks or shelves of their own. A dressing table with a mirror can be built in where there’s space. If you are living with a walk-in wardrobe in a box room and more space for clothes and shoes, that’s what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and a large share of homes around Bedford Park are that old. Fitted furniture can run right up to the ceiling or the cornice, with high storage for the things you use least. Picture rails, skirting boards and coving are met neatly or cut around, so the furniture suits the house.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Is bespoke worth it?

A basic rail system is easy to change, which suits some people well. A fitted walk-in wardrobe adds doors, drawers and shelves where you want them, in a finish that suits the house. Alcoves and recesses in period houses are rarely a standard width or depth, so ready-made units rarely fill them properly. Furniture made for the space fills it.

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

Why us?

  • Finished by spray or by hand
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • More than 300 projects completed
  • Made for your room, not a standard size

Read how bespoke compares with ready-made or what to look for in a quote.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

What happens on fitting day

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so it is useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You let us know about the room.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
  3. You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
  6. We check everything with you, and fresh paint should be treated gently at first.

How to prepare

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Bedford Park

Is Bedford Park in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?

Yes, Bedford Park is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Ealing and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

I live near South Acton station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do I need doors on a walk-in wardrobe?

That depends on how you like to use the space. Doors, open rails and shelves can all be combined, and we’ll talk it through at the measuring visit.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Does my lease affect fitted furniture?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. Check your lease, as we can’t advise on it.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

Boards, parts and paint

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawers keep smaller clothes and accessories tidy, and they can sit below the hanging or shelves.

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which matters for drawers and long shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.
