Walk-in wardrobes for your home in White City

Walk-in wardrobes in White City: what you get

A walk-in wardrobe gives your clothes a room of their own. It can be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. Everything is built in our workshop and fitted to the room, scribed to the walls and set level. If your home has a dressing area in part of a bedroom and long and double hanging planned around your clothes, walk-in wardrobes made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Whether your home in White City is a period house, an interwar semi, a post-war flat or a newer build, the furniture starts from your room, not a standard size. On an external wall, ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps keep condensation away. Shelves, drawers and any hanging are arranged around your things.

A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

What happens on fitting day

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. First, you let us know about the space.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot usually do that in an older room.

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Before and after fitting day

These points come up often when people plan walk-in wardrobes. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:

  • Line up your electrician for any new lights
  • Measure how much long hanging you need
  • Think about whether you want doors
  • Have a clear-out before we measure

Let air move through the walk-in wardrobe, particularly if it is on an external wall. Avoid packing clothes tight against the back of the units to help air move.

A new partition wall is building work, so it comes before us. We fit the furniture once the room is ready.

White City homes and walk-in wardrobes

Homes built before 1919 make up about 43% of the housing in the streets around White City, with about 18% built between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 8 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of White City. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. So a van fitting furniture in White City normally needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension arranged through the council. We ask about parking during the design visit, so the van can be planned for.

For an older house near St Michael and St George, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. If your children go to Ark Swift Primary Academy or a school nearby, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live near Hammersmith Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

Questions we’re often asked

My home in White City is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Is parking a problem for fitting in White City?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Just mention it when you contact us.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Usually not. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can require listed building consent for works that affect their character.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

That is normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

How it is made

Shelves

High shelves suit things you use less often, while daily things stay within reach.

Hanging rails

We plan rails for full-length garments and for double hanging, based on what you wear.

Why bespoke in White City?

Neither choice is right for every home. In a square room with a tight budget, a ready-made system may be enough. For tricky rooms, period homes or a built-in look, a bespoke design tends to earn its place. Walls and floors are seldom perfectly flat in any home, so standalone furniture can lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit, and the quote follows.
