How we make walk-in wardrobes for Parsons Green

Drawers, shelves and shoe storage make a walk-in wardrobe work day to day. Shelves suit folded clothes and bags, smaller things go in drawers and shoes can have racks or shelves of their own. A dressing table with a mirror can be built in where there’s space. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a dressing table with drawers and a mirror and a calmer, clearer bedroom.

Victorian and Edwardian bedrooms typically have a chimney breast on one wall and a recess either side. A large share of the homes around Parsons Green date from before 1919, so many bedrooms there may share that layout. Storage can go in each recess, with a bridge of cupboards over the chimney breast. The flue behind is kept ventilated, and any damp is sorted first.

The quote comes in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Questions we’re often asked

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Parsons Green?

Yes, we work across Hammersmith and Fulham, Parsons Green included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you fit walk-in wardrobes to the uneven walls of an older house in Parsons Green?

Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

We plan the route in at the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Parsons Green homes and walk-in wardrobes

Homes built before 1919 make up about 60% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Parsons Green, with about 18% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 34 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Parsons Green. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and walk-in wardrobes can be designed to work around them. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. That normally means a van in Parsons Green needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit.

For a flat near Imperial Wharf station, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your children go to Lady Margaret School or a school nearby, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. The wider area includes historic houses like Fulham Palace, about 0.8 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Parsons Green is within the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, about 1 mile north-west of Fulham. We design and make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Parsons Green. We cover places right across Hammersmith and Fulham, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.

In SW6 and SW10, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. We cover homes on streets like Buer Road, Vera Road and Ewald Road, for walk-in wardrobes and any of our other fitted furniture. The A304 runs close to Parsons Green; on busy main roads, unloading walk-in wardrobes takes a little planning. Nearby, we also make walk-in wardrobes in Hurlingham (1 mile south), Walham Green (1 mile north-east), Chelsea Harbour (1 mile east), Sands End (1 mile east) and West Brompton (1 mile north). Across the rest of Hammersmith and Fulham, our area takes in Hammersmith (2 miles north-west), Shepherd's Bush (2 miles north-west), Brackenbury Village (2 miles north-west), White City (3 miles north), Brook Green (2 miles north-west) and College Park (4 miles north). Being one of the larger places in Hammersmith and Fulham, Parsons Green is covered for all of our fitted furniture.

Could you do it yourself?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes

The price for your room depends on:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • How big the furniture is
  • Parking and unloading on your street

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.

What we need to know

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you contact us, it’s useful to send:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • How you want to use the space

To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.

Materials and finishes

Spray-painted finish

For a sleek finish, spray painting works well, and it is finished before fitting day.

Shelves

Shoe shelves can be angled or flat, sized to what you own.

Fitting day, step by step

Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. First, you tell us about the space. A line on how you’ll use the room helps.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, planned around the way you get dressed.
  3. You receive a quote in writing, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer.

Preparing the room

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
