Fitted wardrobes in Woodford

Doors can be hinged or sliding. Hinged doors open a whole section at once, but they need clear space in front to swing. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about space under the eaves going to waste and standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall.

Around Woodford, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the third bedroom is often small, sitting over the stairs. That’s where fitted wardrobes earn their place, making a small room work as a dressing room, a guest room or both. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.

The furniture is built in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

What affects the price in Woodford

There’s no set price, because there is no set room. The things that affect it are:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Before the design visit

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Your postcode and the borough

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.

From workshop to your room

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. It starts when you let us know about the room, the floor it’s on and the wardrobes you want.
  2. At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn. Let us know about parking as well, as a van typically needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
  3. A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
  5. Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.

How to prepare

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

Ask for a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Questions from Woodford

Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Woodford?

Yes, Woodford is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Redbridge and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

I live near Highams Park station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Redbridge and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can fitted wardrobes follow a sloping ceiling?

Yes. The wardrobe is shaped to the ceiling line, with long hanging where there is height and shelves or drawers where it is lower. It makes good use of space that’s hard to furnish.

How do I get a quote?

Simply tell us about the room on our contact form. It helps to send rough measurements and a few pictures, and we will arrange a design visit, followed by a quote in writing.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need someone to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you.

What we do not do

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Redecorating around the wardrobes
  • Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
  • Treating damp or mould on the walls

Not sure whether your space suits fitted wardrobes? You can use our contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Bedroom storage in Woodford

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Woodford were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 33%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 24%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The centre of Woodford is within about a quarter of a mile of the Woodford Broadway Conservation Area. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Redbridge sets its own rules. Depending on your street in Woodford, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. Tell us what the parking is like at the design visit.

For a family home near Woodbridge High School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live in a flat close to Highams Park station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Is it time for fitted wardrobes?

Moving home often prompts it. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom, or will not go up the stairs at all. Built-in wardrobes are planned for the room you live in now.

Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:

  • Mismatched bedroom furniture
  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • Too little room for clothes
  • Wasted space beside the chimney breast

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Hurst House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home

Materials and finishes

Spray-painted finish

A sprayed coat covers edges, corners and panels evenly for a smooth finish. You choose the colour before we start.

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits wardrobe carcasses, shelves and drawers. You can paint the edge or leave the layers showing.
