Wall beds for your home in Cubitt Town

Wall beds in Cubitt Town

Spare rooms in London homes are often small, and the bed fills the room even when no one is staying. When the bed is folded away, the room is open again for a desk, a hobby or just space. Guests still get a proper bed when they stay. We make wall beds from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the things people most often want solved are a bed that looks like cupboards by day and a flexible room for a growing family.

Many homes around Cubitt Town have been built since 2000, and in newer homes, bedrooms tend to be compact, with plasterboard stud walls. Wall beds are fixed into the studs or held by fixings made for the board. Any built-in cupboard that came with the home can be replaced or extended to match.

A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

What happens on fitting day

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so it’s useful to let us know at the measuring visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You tell us about the room.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and the colour.
  3. You receive a written quote covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. We build the cabinets in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The wall bed is fitted, and any hand painting is done on site. New paint needs gentle use while it cures.

Before fitting day

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Standard units seldom reach the ceiling or fit wall to wall. We can build to the full height and width, with storage or shelves filling the rest of the wall. Off-the-shelf depths can crowd a compact new-build room, whereas fitted pieces can be as shallow as the space needs. It still uses the full height.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

Why us?

  • Work across the whole of London
  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight

What we do not do

It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Decorating around the cabinet
  • Wiring for lights or chargers
  • Getting consent under your lease

Not sure whether your space suits wall beds? You can message us from the contact page and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Wall beds for homes in Cubitt Town

Homes built since 2000 make up about 67% of the housing in the streets around Cubitt Town, with about 17% built between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Cubitt Town include Christ Church (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles south, and Carnegie Library (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. Vans bringing furniture to Cubitt Town fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We go through parking and access at the design visit.

Living in a block of flats near Canary Wharf station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. Close to Mudchute Park and Farm? Keeping wall beds off the window wall keeps the room bright.

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Your questions about wall beds in Cubitt Town

Is Cubitt Town in the area you cover for wall beds?

Yes. Cubitt Town is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Tower Hamlets and London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Cubitt Town?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

How much room do I need in front of a wall bed?

You need clear floor in front of the cabinet for the bed to fold down, as well as the depth of the cabinet itself. We check the space when we measure and plan the layout around it.

Is a mattress included with the wall bed?

What matters most is that the mattress suits the mechanism. We will explain its limits during the design visit, so you can choose with confidence.

How is the furniture painted?

You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

How long does fitting take?

It depends on the design. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you’ll know before we start.

Why people ask for wall beds in Cubitt Town

Studio flats and small one-bedroom flats are another reason. A bed that folds up gives you a living room in the day and a bedroom at night.

We are often asked to help with:

  • A real mattress for visitors
  • A spare room that’s rarely slept in
  • A study that doubles as a spare room
  • Hiding the bed when it is not in use
