Wall beds in Maze Hill: what you get
A wall bed folds up into a fitted cabinet when you don’t need it and is lowered again at night. It means a room can work as more than a bedroom, such as a spare room that is also a study. We make the cabinet for your room and finish it to match. We make wall beds from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are hiding the bed when it’s not in use and a flexible room for a growing family.
A large number of homes around Maze Hill date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats with compact bedrooms. In a compact bedroom, fitted furniture that reaches the ceiling and uses the corners makes the most difference. Boxing for pipes and risers is designed around rather than left as dead space.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Fitting day, step by step
You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so it helps to let us know during the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturdays can be arranged.
- First, you let us know about the room and how you’d like it to work. A desk or shelving around the bed can be part of it.
- We come to measure, look at the wall and floor, and go through the layout with you. We also check there is clear space in front to lower the bed.
- We send a quote setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The bed cabinet and any shelves or desk are made at our workshop.
- We fit everything in your home and check the bed lowers and lifts smoothly.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
How to get a quote
We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Wall beds in Maze Hill: local notes
Homes built since 2000 make up about 44% of the housing in the streets around Maze Hill, with about 32% built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. There are 87 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Maze Hill. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and wall beds can be designed to work around them. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
Queen's House, about 0.3 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice. If you live in a period home close to Christ Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go. If your children go to John Roan School or a school nearby, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

Pricing wall beds in Maze Hill
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- The internal fittings
- The number of doors and drawers
- How big the furniture is
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.
Before the design visit
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Any ideas or images you have saved
You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, tell us about the room on our contact form. You receive a written quote after the visit.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an tricky room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.
FAQs: wall beds in Maze Hill
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Maze Hill station?
Yes. We cover all of Greenwich and the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
My home in Maze Hill is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Wall beds are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, but it helps to be around at the end.
Is a mattress included with the wall bed?
The mechanism maker sets which mattresses suit the bed, including its size, depth and weight. We’ll go through those limits at the measuring visit so you can choose one that works.
How long does fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We will talk it through at the design visit.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.
