Wall beds in Isle of Dogs: what you get
We fit wall beds in Isle of Dogs and across London. It starts with a design visit to measure the room and check the wall, followed by a quote. We make everything in our workshop and fit it in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We make wall beds from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a bed that looks like cupboards by day and a study that doubles as a spare room.
Many homes around Isle of Dogs were built since 2000, and across London a lot of homes from those years are compact flats in newer blocks. Small rooms suit fitted furniture that uses the full height and the awkward corners. Boxing for pipes and risers is designed around rather than left as dead space.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

What it costs
Several things affect the price:
- The overall size of the piece
- The internal fittings
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Doors and drawers, and how many
Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
What to send when you contact us
These details help when you get in touch:
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Examples of the look you’re after
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Fitting day, step by step
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer blocks often have concierge desks, entry systems and rules on lift booking, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Wall beds are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.
- First, you let us know about the space.
- We visit, measure and go through the bed, shelves and desk. What the wall is made of matters, as the bed has to be fixed securely.
- A quote in writing is sent to you, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The cabinets are built in our workshop.
- The wall bed is fitted in your home.
Preparing the room
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Flats, leases and landlords
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases.
When you need someone else
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:
- Electrical work for reading lights
- Choosing a mattress for you
- Advice on your lease

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Questions from Isle of Dogs
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Isle of Dogs?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
I live near Greenwich station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
What space does a fold-down bed take up?
The bed needs room in front of it to come down, on top of the cabinet’s own depth. We measure this at the measuring visit, so the design works.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
The furniture is built in sections. At the design visit, we measure the route not just the room.
What does a wall bed cost?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Each wall bed is different, so we quote once we have seen the room. To get started, message us from the contact page.
