Fitted bedroom furniture in Ealing
In the streets around Ealing, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 56%) and the years since 2000 (about 19%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 10 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Ealing. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Around Ealing, about 56% of homes date from before 1919, well above the figure for the rest of London as a whole, about 28%, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That makes period details like uneven walls, alcoves and picture rails more likely to shape the design.
Near listed buildings like Pitzhanger Manor House, under half a mile east of the centre of Ealing, older homes may keep original joinery that wall beds can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. The wider area includes historic houses like Pitzhanger Manor, about 0.1 miles east. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design. If your home is one of the older houses near St Saviour's Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.

About our wall beds in Ealing
In a studio flat, a wall bed can make the main room feel much larger. During the day, the room is somewhere to sit, work and eat; at night, the bed comes down. Storage and shelving can go on either side or above, so the whole wall works hard. We make wall beds from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about more floor space in a studio flat and a hobby room with a bed for guests.
In a Victorian bedroom, the chimney breast typically sits on a side wall, with a recess to each side. A large share of the homes around Ealing date from before 1919, so many bedrooms there may share that layout. Fitted furniture can fill both recesses and bridge the chimney breast with high cupboards. The flue behind is kept ventilated, and any damp is sorted first.
You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Questions from Ealing
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Ealing?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
Is Ealing in the area you cover for wall beds?
Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Usually not. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can need listed building consent for works that affect their character.
Can a wall bed go on any wall?
It depends on the wall and floor. The mechanism must be fixed to a sound wall or floor, as its maker specifies, so we check it at the measuring visit.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
We plan the route in during the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you get in touch.
Is bespoke worth it?
Standard units seldom reach the ceiling or fit wall to wall. A bespoke cabinet can run the full width and height and fill the rest of the wall with storage. Standard furniture is drawn for modern rooms, so its proportions can look odd in a tall period room, whereas fitted pieces can pick up the room’s height and mouldings, with panels and details to suit the house.
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

What else we make in Ealing
What happens on fitting day
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

What we do not do
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:
- Mattresses, which you choose to suit the mechanism
- Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
- Electrical work for reading lights
If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.
Boards, parts and finishes
- Hand-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Birch plywood
- Shelves or a desk alongside
- Spray-painted finish
- Fold-down bed mechanism
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.
