How we make wall beds for Erith

Safety starts with the fixing: the mechanism is fixed as its maker specifies, into a wall or floor that is sound enough to hold it. We check the wall and floor at the measuring visit, because the fixing has to suit what the wall is made of. We make wall beds from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a studio that works by day and night and storage built around a fold-down bed.

Where the window, radiator and door sit decides most of a bedroom layout. Whatever kind of home you have in Erith, we start there, then plan fitted furniture on the walls that are left. Furniture is kept clear of radiators so the room stays warm.

Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Common questions about wall beds

I live near Erith station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do you make wall beds for homes in Erith?

Yes, we work across Bexley, Erith included, and across the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

What happens at the design visit?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

How long does fitting take?

How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will talk it through during the design visit.

Is a wall bed safe for everyday use?

Wall beds are made for regular use when fixed and used as its maker specifies. We fix the mechanism securely to a sound wall or floor, and the maker’s guidance on use should always be followed.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us, and we will see what we can do.

Fitting day, step by step

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Before fitting day, we check the route in as well as the room, so wall beds arrive in sections that fit through. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and the wall where the bed could go.
  2. We visit to measure up, look at the wall and floor and make sure there’s clear space in front to lower the bed.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the wall bed and any storage.
  4. The bed housing and any shelves or desk are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinet goes in, the mechanism is fixed securely and the bed is tried out.
  6. We go through the bed with you; the cabinet has the spray-painted or hand-painted finish you chose.

Before fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

How to get a quote

Advice

Pricing wall beds in Erith

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:

  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • How square the room is
  • How big the furniture is

Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That’s reflected in the quote, written once we’ve measured up.

Before the design visit

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • How you want to use the space
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. When you are ready, tell us about the room on our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

How it’s made

Moisture-resistant MDF

A painted MDF front looks crisp, so it suits the doors on the bed cabinet.

Birch plywood

Shelves beside a wall bed often carry books, and birch plywood helps them resist sagging.

Looking after your furniture

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Check there is room for the bed to fold down
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Keep the floor in front clear before lowering the bed
  • Leaseholders: check your lease first

Follow the mechanism maker’s guidance each time you lower and lift the bed. Lower it steadily and keep the space in front clear, and don’t let children play with it.

If you know the wall’s construction, mention it. Solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard need different fixings, and we look at it when we measure.

What we do not do

We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:

  • New sockets, lighting or wiring (your electrician)
  • Supplying mattresses
  • Advice on your lease

Not sure whether your space suits wall beds? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Erith

About 26% of the homes in the area around Erith went up before 1919, and about 22% between 1973 and 1999, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The centre of Erith is within about a quarter of a mile of the Lesney Park Road Conservation Area. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. All of London, Bexley included, is inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Erith fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We plan parking and access with you at the design visit.

Close to Wildspace Conservation Park? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. For families living near Christ Church (Erith) CofE Primary School, wall beds in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.
