Wall beds for your home in Edgware Bury

Wall beds in Edgware Bury: what you get

We fit wall beds in Edgware Bury and across London. First comes a design visit, where we measure and look at the wall, then a quote in writing. The cabinets are built in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Typical reasons to get in touch are a study that doubles as a spare room and a real mattress for visitors, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Edgware Bury, the third bedroom is often small, sitting over the stairs. Small rooms like that suit wall beds, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Nothing is assumed: the room is measured wall by wall.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

When is bespoke worth it?

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

What we do not do

Some parts of a job need another trade, like an electrician, a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here’s what to know:

  • Building work to make a wall sound
  • Getting consent under your lease
  • Decorating around the cabinet

Not sure whether your space suits wall beds? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Bedroom storage in Edgware Bury

About 47% of the homes in the area around Edgware Bury went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 34% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Around a third of the homes in the area around Edgware Bury (about 34%) were built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Bedrooms in homes built since 2000 tend to be compact, with stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs. About 47% of homes in the neighbourhood around Edgware Bury date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.

If your home is one of the older houses near St Andrew, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice. For a family home near Broadfields Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If you live near Edgwarebury Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

FAQs: wall beds in Edgware Bury

Is Edgware Bury in the area you cover for wall beds?

Yes, we work across Barnet, Edgware Bury included, and across the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Edgware Bury?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough sizes. To send them, use our contact form.

Will a wall bed work on my wall?

That depends on what the wall and floor are made of. The mechanism has to be fixed securely as its maker specifies, to a wall or floor that can take the load, so we check it at the design visit.

Bespoke wall beds or ready-made?

You can buy wall bed units off the shelf, often for less, and in a straightforward room they may be enough. They’re made in standard sizes and rarely allow for an uneven wall or an alcove. Ours is made to the room you have. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Materials and finishes

Spray-painted finish

You choose the colour, and we apply it in the workshop.

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF stays flat and paints beautifully, so it suits the doors on the bed cabinet.

What happens on fitting day

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. The time the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You let us know about the room.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and the colour.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. The wall bed is fitted, and any hand painting is done on site.
