What we do not do

Not everything around wall beds is carpentry, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here’s what to know:

  • Supplying mattresses
  • Plastering or decorating the room
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

Materials and parts

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Shelves or a desk alongside
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Fold-down bed mechanism
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

Wall beds in Barnet: what you get

We fit wall beds in Barnet and across London. It starts with a design visit to measure the room and check the wall, followed by a quote. We make everything in our workshop and fit it in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you’ll know in advance. Most enquiries start with a study that doubles as a spare room and a guest room that sits empty most of the time; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Fitted furniture in a bedroom has to work with how you use the room. In Barnet, as anywhere in London, we start by asking what the room is for. Then the layout, doors and inside fittings follow. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted, in a colour agreed with you.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

From workshop to your room

You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls, with scribing where they wander and packing where floors dip. Hand painting can happen on site, while spray-painted pieces come ready from the workshop.

  1. First, you let us know about the room and how you’d like it to work. A desk or shelving around the bed can be part of it.
  2. We visit, measure up and check the wall the bed will fix to.
  3. A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinet, the storage and the finish, for you to look over.
  4. The bed cabinet and any shelves or desk are built in our workshop.
  5. We fit it in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Starting with a design visit

A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, send us a few details through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Your questions about wall beds in Barnet

Do you make wall beds for homes in Barnet?

Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

I live near New Barnet station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

It’s made in sections. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the design visit.

Is a wall bed safe for everyday use?

Safety depends on a secure fixing and sensible use. The mechanism is fixed exactly as its maker sets out, and you keep the space in front clear and children away while it moves.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

What affects the cost of wall beds

What you pay depends on:

  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • The width and height of the space

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What we need to know

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, send us a few details through our contact form.

When is bespoke worth it?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Why people ask for wall beds in Barnet

Most people come to us with a guest room that sits empty most of the year. A bed fills the room whether anyone is using it or not, and a wall bed lets the room be used every day.

Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:

  • A bed that looks like cupboards by day
  • A real mattress for visitors
  • A home office that also sleeps guests
  • A playroom that can sleep visitors

If you live near Highlands Gardens, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?

Fitted bedroom furniture in Barnet

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Barnet were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 27%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 26%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for wall beds, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Barnet, Historic England’s list includes Odeon Cinema (Grade II), under half a mile west, and Church of St Mark (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so the rest of London is inside it. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Barnet. We plan parking and access with you at the measuring visit.

If you live in a flat close to New Barnet station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. If your children go to Grasvenor Avenue Infant School or a school nearby, the inside of wall beds can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
