Bespoke wall beds or ready-made?
Ready-made wall bed units are available and typically cost less, and they can work in a simple space. They’re made in standard sizes and rarely allow for an uneven wall or an alcove. Ours is made to the room you have. Tall standalone furniture needs fixing back to the wall so it can’t tip, and in an older house that can mean fixing into brick or lath and plaster. With fitted pieces, the fixings are planned for the wall from the start.
Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it.
Why choose us
- Saturday work by arrangement
- Over 300 projects completed
- Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Made for your room, not a standard size

Wall beds for homes in Brixton
The bed mechanism must be fixed securely, exactly as its maker specifies, into a wall or floor that’s sound enough to hold it. At the design visit we look at the wall it will go on as solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard all need different fixings. If your home has a guest bed that disappears in the day and a study that doubles as a spare room, wall beds made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.
Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and a large share of the homes around Brixton date from then. That height can be used, with fitted furniture taken up to the cornice and top cupboards for occasional things. Picture rails, skirting boards and coving are met neatly or cut around.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What happens on fitting day
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that aren’t straight, so each piece is trimmed and adjusted on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so let us know about permits and bays at the design visit.
- You get in touch with a few details about the room. Mention who the bed is for.
- The design visit covers measuring, the wall and the layout.
- A quote in writing is sent to you, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- Everything is made in our workshop.
- We fit the bed and storage in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies.
Preparing the room
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Empty the space we will be working in
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
Arranging a design visit
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Flats, leases and landlords
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you get in touch.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
Wall beds for homes in Brixton
Homes built before 1919 make up about 46% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Brixton, with about 18% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. There are 64 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Brixton. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 27% of households in the area around Brixton, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it’s worth checking yours first.
Living in a block of flats near Brixton station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. If your children go to Sudbourne Primary School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Close to Max Roach Park? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

FAQs: wall beds in Brixton
I live in a flat in Brixton. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Do you make wall beds for homes in Brixton?
Yes, we work across Lambeth, Brixton included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details.
How much time does fitting need?
How long fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
Is a wall bed safe for everyday use?
A secure fixing and careful use are what matter. We fix the mechanism as its maker specifies; you lower it steadily with the floor clear.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
What we do not do
We do not treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:
- Mattresses, which you choose to suit the mechanism
- Getting consent under your lease
- Electrical work for reading lights
If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

What affects the price in Brixton
To work out the quote, we look at:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Parking and unloading on your street
- The width and height of the space
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing. To start, message us from the contact page.
Helping us understand the room
These details help when you contact us:
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Your postcode and the borough
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, message us from the contact page with some details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
