Wall beds designed for your room
When is bespoke worth it?
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Wall beds in Greengate: what you get
We fit wall beds in Greengate and across London. It starts with a design visit to measure the room and check the wall, then a written quote. The cabinets are made in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you’ll know in advance. If your home has shelves or a desk around the bed and a bed that looks like cupboards by day, that is what wall beds are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Floors in older houses often slope, and a large share of the homes around Greengate are that old. Pieces stand on a levelled plinth or adjustable feet, so doors close square and the gaps stay even. The scribe at the wall takes up any bow in the plaster.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

How fitting day works
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that aren’t straight, so there is some trimming and adjusting on site. Floors are protected, and dust is kept down as far as possible. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit, as terraced streets are often busy.

An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Newham sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. We ask about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
For an older house near St Andrew's Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design. Living in a block of flats near West Ham station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you contact us.
Questions from Greengate
Is Greengate in the area you cover for wall beds?
Yes, Greengate is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Newham and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

The mattress needs to suit the mechanism by size, depth and weight. We’ll go through those limits at the measuring visit so you can choose one that works.

Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations. We can’t advise on leases, so please check yours.

Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which matters for the parts that carry the bed. The edge can be left on show or painted.
