Walk-in wardrobes in Silvertown
A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, either open to the room or behind doors. Building a new stud partition is building work, so that is for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. People normally come to us about a calmer, clearer bedroom and a dressing table with drawers and a mirror; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Many homes around Silvertown have been built since 2000, and in newer homes, bedrooms tend to be compact, with plasterboard stud walls. Walk-in wardrobes are fixed into the studs or held by fixings made for the board. Any built-in cupboard that came with the home can be replaced or extended to match.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Flats, leases and landlords
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the design visit.
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls during the design visit.
Bedroom storage in Silvertown
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Silvertown were built since 2000 (about 84%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 13%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There is a conservation area within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Silvertown, going by Historic England’s data. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Purpose-built flats are more common around Silvertown than across Newham: about 89% of households, against about 44%, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. So the route in, from stairs to lifts, is part of the design.
Queen's House, about 1.9 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If you live in a flat close to Custom House station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. For families living near Britannia Village Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.
Silvertown is in the London Borough of Newham, about 2 miles north of Plaistow. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, Silvertown included. We list Silvertown among 26 places we cover in Newham.
In E16, SE10 and SE7, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Whether you live on a street like Booth Road, Thames Road and Knights Road or on one nearby, we can arrange a design visit for walk-in wardrobes. We also cover the places around Silvertown: West Silvertown (1 mile north-west), Custom House (1 mile north), Royal Docks (1 mile north-east), Canning Town (1 mile north) and Limmo Peninsula (1 mile north-west). Other parts of Newham we cover include Plaistow (2 miles north), Stratford (3 miles north-west), Forest Gate (4 miles north), East Ham (2 miles north-east), Upton Park (2 miles north) and Greengate (2 miles north).
Around Silvertown
The streets we cover here include those near Anchor & Hope pub and The Royal Docks Community School and the streets around them. The nearest railway station is Custom House station, roughly 0.7 miles north. A little further out are Albert Dock Seamen's Hospital (0.9 miles north) and Charlton Athletic Museum (1 mile south). For a walk, there’s Gilbert's Pit.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Corners and door frames are covered as well. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.
- It starts with a short note from you.
- We come to measure and go through the design.
- A quote in writing follows.
- The units are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
- Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area

Advice
FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Silvertown
How do you fit walk-in wardrobes in a flat in Silvertown?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Walk-in wardrobes are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Is Silvertown in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?
Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London, and Silvertown is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
What happens at the design visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking.
Should a walk-in wardrobe have doors?
That depends on how you like to use the space. Doors, open rails and shelves can all be combined, and we go through the options when we measure.
Why bespoke in Silvertown?
If you are likely to move soon, standalone furniture you can take with you may suit better. How long you will stay is worth weighing up before you decide. In a newer flat, big flat-pack units can be hard to get into the lift or through the door, whereas fitted furniture is made in sections that fit. The sections are joined and fixed once inside.
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Tell us about parking at the design visit, so it can be planned.
