Wall beds in Spring Park
A wall bed needs clear space in front of it to fold down, so we plan the layout with that in mind. Furniture in front of the bed has to be easy to move or kept out of the way when the bed is down. Typical reasons to get in touch are a bed that fills a little-used room and a study that doubles as a spare room, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Around Spring Park, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the box room over the stairs is a classic spot for fitted furniture, and the bulkhead is built around rather than ignored. Main bedrooms from that era are often a good size, with a bay window at the front.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Looking after your furniture
New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Clean the cabinet with a soft, damp cloth
- Consider how many people will sleep in it
- Plan where chairs and desks will sit
- Keep the floor in front clear before lowering the bed
Keep to the mattress size and weight the mechanism allows, because a mattress outside those limits can affect the balance. A new mattress should suit the mechanism too.
Let us know what the wall is made of if you know. Solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard need different fixings, and we check it at the measuring visit too.

How fitting works for wall beds
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- First, you let us know about the space.
- The design visit covers measuring, the wall and the layout. What the wall is made of matters, as the bed has to be fixed securely.
- A quote in writing is sent to you, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- Everything is made at our workshop.
- The wall bed is fitted in your home.
Before fitting day
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Make sure pets are kept safely away

Advice
Bedrooms in Spring Park: local notes
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 62% of the housing in the streets around Spring Park, with about 22% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how wall beds are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Spring Park, Historic England’s list includes Church of All Saints (Grade II), under half a mile south, and The White Lodge (Grade II), under half a mile north-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. About 65% of households in the streets around Spring Park live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.
If your children go to Forest Academy or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Addington Palace, about 1.3 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go. For a flat near West Wickham station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it.

What it costs
There is no set price, because there’s no set room. The things that affect it are:
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- How big the furniture is
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To start, message us from the contact page.
Getting in touch
When you contact us, these help most:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- The type of home and how the room is reached
Getting a quote starts with a few details: the room, rough sizes and some pictures if you have them. When you’re ready, use our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.
FAQs: wall beds in Spring Park
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Spring Park?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to West Wickham station?
Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Is a mattress included with the wall bed?
What matters most is that the mattress suits the mechanism. We will explain its limits during the design visit, so you can pick the right one.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.
Can you fit a wall bed to a stud wall?
That’s something we look at when we measure. Solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard all need different fixings, and the mechanism maker sets out what’s required.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Materials and finishes
Moisture-resistant MDF
We use moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, giving the front a smooth finish.
Bed mechanism housing
A wall bed housing needs to be rigid and true, so it is built from sturdy board. It’s fixed into a wall or floor that can take the load.
