Window seats for your home in Spring Park

FAQs: window seats in Spring Park

Do you cover homes near West Wickham station?

Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Is Spring Park in the area you cover for window seats?

Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London, and Spring Park is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Typically not. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Can you build a seat beneath sash windows?

Yes. Seats suit sash windows in many older homes. We measure the cill, the window and any shutters, so the seat sits neatly and the window still works. We do not repair sashes or cills.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.

Window seats in Spring Park

A seat under a bedroom or nursery window can store toys, bedding or books. With deep drawers or a lift-up lid, it becomes useful storage as well as a place to sit. For children’s rooms, drawers are often easier for small hands than a heavy lid. In Spring Park, the design visit is where the details are settled. We make window seats from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about wanting a quiet place to read and off-the-shelf pieces that never quite fit the window.

Around Spring Park, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the hallway may be wider than in a Victorian terrace, with room for a cupboard by the door. Bay windows suit seating with drawers or lift-up lids, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Each space is measured and window seats are made to suit it.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

How fitting day works

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the window and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is typically more generous. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

  1. You let us know about the window and the room, with a note of any radiator or shutters.
  2. We measure the window, the cill and any radiator or shutters. Then we go through the seat height and storage.
  3. We agree the seat, the storage and the finish, and send a written quote.
  4. Every part is made at our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home and check every lid and drawer with you. A radiator grille, if there is one, lets the heat through.

How to prepare

  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Getting a quote

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough sizes. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we will arrange a design visit.

Honest limits

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Plastering and decorating around the seat
  • Fixing the window itself
  • Seat cushions, which you source separately

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Radiator grilles
  • Lift-up lids or drawers

Is bespoke worth it?

We scribe each seat to follow the walls and floor, so there are no gaps at the sides or the base. A ready-made piece sits in the space rather than being part of it. The difference is most noticeable in a period room. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and interwar homes often have all three. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit.

Why choose us

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you get in touch.

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Spring Park. How the van gets to your door is planned at the design visit.

Practical tips

Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. These habits help most:

  • Check the shutters so the seat can leave room for them
  • Tell us about the radiator before we visit
  • Consider how often you will reach for what’s stored
  • Plan the cushion early so the seat suits it

Small marks on a hand-painted finish can be touched in. It is worth keeping a record of the paint colour. A spray-painted finish is smooth and even, and small marks often wipe off with a damp cloth.

Avoid standing on the seat to reach the window or curtains. Standing on it can mark the paint and strain the lid. A little care keeps it looking good.
