Wall beds in Yiewsley
Wall beds in Yiewsley
You need room in front of the cabinet to lower the bed, and that shapes the design. Furniture in front of the bed has to be easy to move or kept out of the way, so the bed can come down without a shuffle. Typical reasons to get in touch are a home office that also sleeps guests and a bed that looks like cupboards by day; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Internal walls in post-war homes can be lightweight partitions rather than solid block, and tall furniture stands on the floor, tied back where the wall is strong enough. Because many homes around Yiewsley date from between 1945 and the early 1970s, we check every wall at the design visit. Loads are planned so nothing depends on a weak wall.
Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

The problems wall beds solve
Some people are tired of sofa beds. With a wall bed, guests sleep on a real mattress, on a proper frame.
Requests we hear often include:
- A guest bed that disappears in the day
- Room for a desk and a guest bed
- A bed that fills a little-used room
- Somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep
If your home is one of the older houses near St Joseph the Worker & Dovetail Centre, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice.
Before you choose who makes it
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- Will the quote be in writing?
What affects the cost of wall beds
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote.
Helping us understand the room
To help us picture the room, please include:
- Examples of the look you’re after
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth

Fitting day, step by step
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Post-war houses tend to have simple halls and stairs, so carrying in is rarely difficult. The way in is still measured, along with the room. On the day, sections are joined, levelled and fixed.
- You contact us about a wall bed for a spare room or studio.
- At the design visit we plan the bed cabinet and check the stairs, landings and any lift. Mention parking as well, since vans often need a permit or a paid bay.
- We send a quote in writing.
- In our workshop we build the bed cabinet in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The cabinet is joined in the room, fixed securely and set level.
Before fitting day
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
Arranging a design visit
It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Questions we’re often asked
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Yiewsley?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
Do you cover homes near Southall station?
Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings can need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
